Hmm the Brimstone basic trigger job is only $35.99 and claims 2.0 lbs can be achieved from the stock parts. Tempting as this costs the same as just a drop in hammer.

Yeah Brimstone Tier 3 is really that good. I had one done - it was really smooth, adding parts only makes it lighter but doesn't give the smoothness.

I will be sending another two 10/22 triggers for him in the near future.

A Volquartsen hammer kit is about $50. I found it to drop the pull weight to around 3.5lbs but it left a lot of creep in the trigger. If you want to DYI then I'd spend the extra money on a Kidd kit. I haven't tried his affordable single-stage kit but I own and love one of his superb but high-buck two-stage triggers.

Brimstone did a nice job on one of my Mini-14s but I've never tried one of his 10/22 trigger jobs. If you go that route I'd invest in a 2.5lb Level II upgrade.

I have had Clark Custom do a couple of 10/22 trigger jobs for me and they did a really good job.

I played with one and it feels lighter than the stock trigger, but with a ton of creep.

There are very good instructions on stoning your own trigger on rimfire central.

It takes about 5 minutes.

Not all gun owners know the relationship between all the parts and what they do. For this reason and for my safety on the range I say sent it to Brimstone. Sanding here, filing this, do you think you took off .002 0r .020? You can make a bad situation very quickly.

+1 on Brimstone. I got the Tier 3 job and it was well worth it. Highly recommended!!! Best useful mod I've ever done on any of my weapons.

Why would I blame you? I know how to take responsibility if I mess things up and won't attempt something unless it's very basic and cheap to fix if I goof up. The only sort of gunsmithing I've done is replace an extractor spring on a cz75b , install and uninstall Tech Sights and install a new extractor in my 1022.

Kidd Trigger job is my go to for a budget kit I'm always happy with volquartsen makes *****in products as well. I hear great news about brimstone but have yet to use his work. For a budget I said Kidd Trigger job. $80 on sale and so worth it.

My first 10/22 has a Volquartsen hammer kit. It breaks at exactly 2 lbs after I did some polishing on the engagement parts; it was 2.25 lbs before that. But it still has a relatively long creep before the shot breaks.

The Brimstone Tier 3 will give you a lighter weight and crisper break than the VQ hammer alone, but that isn't all. When you drop in a hammer, you don't get the sear/disconnector engagement surfaces polished and re-shaped for a smoother, more positive reset after each shot. You also don't get the bolt lock plate modded to an auto-release. Brimstone does these things. From all I know, at the sub-$50 price point (incl. shipping), a Brimstone Tier 3 is the best solution available today. Unless you are really into DIY, but note that most people doing their first DIY trigger job end up buying new hammers.
