    10/22 barrel

I am contemplating swapping barrels on a 10/22. There are many options out there, some very expensive.

What do you use and why did you choose it?

Would you swap triggers before barrel?
    Thanks!

Thanks Tripe. Do the TACSOL barrels need sights installed? Will all barrels need a sights installed? This might see like a silly question, I assume yes, but honestly don't know.

I don't know for sure, but I believe so. Call their 800 number if you can.

TS barrels are the best at what?

The best is completely subjective, and should be largely based on the end-users intended purpose for the rifle, be it small varmint hunting, small varmint extermination, competing, recreational target shooting, steel shooting, etcetera.

          There is no end-all, be-all, do-it-all barrel.

Typically, when you upgrade to a .875" or .920" bull barrel, you are eliminating use of iron sights, and upgrading to an optic.

I was looking at different barrels that would accept iron sights and never really found what I liked at a price I was willing to pay. It seems that iron sight compatible aftermarket barrels are not all that common.

I recently swapped back to the original barrel from a Butler Creek barrel, the original hasn't been mounted in 20 years or so! I ended up doing a "M1 Carbine conversion" and couldn't be more pleased with it.

You can't go wrong with a green Mountain bull barrel. I bought a 20" blued fluted barrel for 140$ shipped. It has a lot of positive reviews on rimfire central

You can gain a better perspective by asking that question at Rim Fire Central. I have built 11 10-22's, using different barrels for differing reasons. Much is dependent on what you will use it for. Light barrels are great for field and steel challenge, but are not match quality. The Tac-Sol can be made to shoot near match quality with modification. If you are going to use it primarily as a field rifle and for informal target practice, you can have your factory barrel made to shoot much better by sending it to one of these two fellows, Que, or Randy at CPC. Here are links for all three recommended places you visit before you make up your mind.

I can thread your barrel for standard 1/2 X 28 threads. On 10/22 barrels the front sight post is moved back and the muzzle threaded. Starting with the standard carbine 18" barrel OAL after work is slightly less than 17.5". Factory sights can be retained; taller sights may be needed to clear

Tech Sights has an M1 Garand style sight system that works on .920 bull barrels.

I use Green Mountain bull barrels on my 10/22

i use whistle pig barrels .920 aluminum outer with SS liner.

fluted with muzzle brake brushed aluminum 18.5” was $180

they also had a sale going recently for $165 for a similar 18” barrel

i love my KSA & GM barrels but weight wise i like the whistle pigs they seem to balance out a little better for my tastes and expectations on my 10/22 builds

As to Tach solutions i wish they made an 18.5” aluminum they make nice barrels but i don’t like being limited to 16” barrels on my builds they are too short for my tastes.

No complaints with my KIDD ultralight 16". More accurate than I am, and not as heavy as other bull barrels... if that's what you're into.

I've kept the stock barrel on my other one and it shots great. Someday I might send it to que.
