    suggestions? 22lr bolt gun

Im thinking about getting a bolt gun in .22lr. Im leaning towards an xt-22, but want to see what the cumulative calguns knowledge bank thinks.

Not looking at other calibers at this time.
    Low-budget - $200ish
Prefer it to have iron sights.
    Not opposed to used.
This will be a plinker and loaner gun. as well as trainer for new shooters.

    Thanks in advance.

I just bought a Ruger American rimfire compact.
I wanted a CZ 455 but could not get over the lower price of the Ruger.
It uses 1022 mags and has an adjustable trigger.
The stock comes with two inserts for using the iron sights or shooting with a scope. Hi viz front sight.

Bought it at turners for 269$. There's a standard version and a compact. I went with the compact with a shorter length of pull so my ten year old daughter can start learning pression shooting. It gets out of jail on the 31st

For teaching precision shooting, nothing beats the CZ452 or CZ455 trainers for the money. Add a YoDave kit for 1-2 lb triggers depending on what your looking for.

You can find some great old Mossbergs for under $200 that shoot as well as a new $500 gun does. My $75 42A use to hold it's own against +$1500 Anshultzes.

I happen to think that the Ruger American Rifle is a howling bargain.

The CZ455 or 452 are great rifles too.

I still plan on buying her a 452 scout for her birthday.
The 299$ price tag isn't hard to swallow.
I just wanted to give the American made Ruger a try.

I'd go for any used .22lr, particularly the older ones. You can often fine one with the bore in fine condition for $100-$150 with a magazine or two.

Old department store branded guns like JC Higgins, marlins, winchesters, remingtons, if you can find an older one with no serial number even better, a great souvenir from the era when you could just walk into any old hardware store and pick up a rifle and ammo.

Many of them shoot very true and at those prices as long as the bore is clean and the crown isn't damaged you pretty much can't go wrong.

                    Thanks everyone!

Im going to keep an eye out for used ones for a few weeks, and if nothing comes up, ill try to talk my wallet into a CZ. Otherwise, ill fall back on the xt-22.

Also - why go bolt? you can load one at a time on a Marlin 795 and they are cheap all day long.

I'm waiting for a stainless version.

As soon as it's available I'll buy the one w/ 22" barrel.

The Savage series of rimfire bolt guns are both great and affordable.
