3x9 on a ruger 10/22

Yeah, it's fine. Nikon makes a 3-9x with a BDC specifically for .22s. Overkill..? Perhaps... Fun..? Oh yeah!!!

Yep, I have one of those on my Savage MkII. Works pretty well.

It'll be fine. A 10/22 doesn't shoot straight enough for the parallax to make much difference anyway. 😁

If you want to shoot your 10/22 at closer ranges(10, 15, 25 yards) you need a rimfire specific scope.

A Redfield will work just fine on your 10/22. I would switch out the base though (if it's an older 10/22) with something that will give you more options for rings. I put an EGW base on mine (http://www.opticsplanet.com/egw-ruge...cope-mount.htm ) to mount a red dot and it worked perfectly. Plenty of rail space to mount a full sized scope.

i understand parallax distortion and design parameters of optics.

his friend didn't say it wouldn't be optimum, he said it wouldn't work.

i could be wrong but a crosshair being broken for using a rifle scope on a pellet gun would pretty closely fit the description of "won't work".

I have a BSA sweet 3x9 on my boys 10/22 it works great, and was only 40$

It is as 40CALIbear explained.That simple.
To go one step further.Parallax may make you want to focus it,at closer ranges when going from 3 to 9 power.
It will be great at 100yds and better.Ok at 50yds
