10/22 Jamming Frequently

Ahhh, I was not following. I was thinking gun and you were talking magazine. If you better describe the problem we might be able to help. Is it not feeding not extracting? 10/22 are normally pretty solid and function well. Shooting "bare lead" 22's can sometimes gum up the gun faster than the copper coat. This can mess up the cycle due to it just getting too dirty. Have you tried different mags or just the one you took apart?

These 10/22 rifles are jammers change the extractor then it will work fine.

With very Ruger 10/22 or Mark III purchase I have made, I ALWAYS change out the extractor with a Volquartsen one or a Kidd one. Here is the difference between a Ruger and Volquartsen extractor:



NONE of my .22LR Ruger firearms have FTFs or FTEs. No jams whatsoever.

It's a failure to feed issue. My next step is to buy a new mag and try only Federal ammo since that's what works best for me. What is the warranty period on a 10/22?

MrKojack1, if it was an extractor issue, it would be doing it from the start. Usually extractor issues result in fired brass ending up in the action rather than being held in place on the bolt as it comes back for contact with the ejector. Failure to feed could be caused by one of 2 things; a magazine that has issues with seating or spring not feeding round up in time for the bolt to grab it or ammunition that isn't providing enough recoil to operate the system efficiently. A combination of the two can also be the issue. Using subsonic ammo has alway posed issues for most 10-22 shooters because of the way the bolt interfaces with the hammer requiring a little more force needed to cock it back. Radius inn the bolt can solve quite a few issues regarding what some would consider weak ammo. This is can be seen in your case as it occurs after your barrel has warmed up and tolerances have increased in the bore which provides less resistance to the bullet going through the riflings, ie. less back pressure to provide the recoil needed. Extractor issues come in combination with poor head spacing that is also common with stock bolts but would be noted as indicated above. Most of the work needed to tune the rifle up can be done by you and doing some reading. There are some great tips and tricks on www.rimfirecentral.com if you get the chance.

Get a kidd charging handle/guide rod with springs. They cycle smooth as glass. Helped my feeding issues. Better extractor is also a good idea.
