    Browning buckmark or ruger markIII?

    Hello my fellow Calgunners!

Somewhat looking into a very accurate out the box 22lr pistol, and I think I may have narrowed it down to a Ruger Mark III or a browning buckmark. I just wanted to hear which is most accurate and reliable? Or any other recommendations thanks.

Had/have both, liked both. Both are accurate and reliable. I liked the Browing better because it just fit my hand better and was more comfortable.
The next guy will say Mark III fits him/her better. Both answers are correct.
Most indoor ranges rent both. Best to rent them and try for yourself.
Best investment you can make pre-purchase.
Best of luck on your new purchase.
BTW: If you live in Calif, check the hand gun roster. I do not know if the Rugers are still on the list.

Love my Browning Buckmark, very accurate and easy to shoot. BUT, hate cleaning it. You have to remove two hex screws on top to clean the action. Putting everything back is a pain in the butt. Had it for over 15 years and still dread cleaning it.

For Ruger Mark 3, you may want to check out cleaning videos on Youtube to see if it's any easier. You'll need a non-marring hammer to take it apart. Pain in the butt? To me it is.

Ever since I got S&W M&P 22 over a year ago, I haven't shot the Browning. M&P 22 is accurate, eats all kinds of cheap 22LRs and super easy to clean. Ruger SR22 is also accurate and just as easy to clean as M&P. But if you have your mind set for the Buckmark or the Mark 3, by all means get one. The cleaning part might be worth it to you.

Regarding the little hex screws on the bridge, make sure you use high quality tools to remove these. I broke cheap harbor freight tools trying to remove these, and had to carwfully drill out the screwdriver bits that broke off. Its otherwise a very accurate out of the box 22.

I have 6 or 7 Ruger .22lr semi auto pistols (only two MKIIIs and they are 22-45s) and a couple older Browning Challengers (very similar to Buckmarks). They are all great guns. I'd say buy whatever fits YOU best. Oh yea, stripping down a Ruger is very simple once you get the hang of it. A non marring hammer is not needed but, a $1 rubber mallet or a simple wood workbench can be used if need be.

Ruger all the way , I would try to find a cheap mk ll ruger less safety parts added and will hold value a little better in the long run, they are easy to take apart after you do it a couple times, after market parts are plentiful.

I have a Buck Mark (yes it's 2 words). I looked at both the Buck Mark and Rugger. I think the Ruger was nicer looking but the take down seemed like a massive PIA. I have about 2,000 rounds through the Buck Mark and have done a detailed take down and clean once after 1,000 rounds. I didn't feel it was a hassle. A bore snake and wipe down of the bolt face is about all you need to do for usual cleaning.
Very accurate and excellent trigger. Reliability is more of a function of the ammo you use. Mine hates Remington Thunderbolt but everything else works well.

Good to know. Maybe a MKII? I'm not looking for any M&P/glock/1911 style 22lr's right now. Trying to get a target 22lr pistol that I can try to attempt to make a smiley face on a pumpkin. Lol

I have a bickmark and live it. It came with the adjustable rear sight. I bought the browning replacement rail, and mounted a cheap red dot and it is awesome. It kicks less than a Ruger 10/22 rifle.

No offense but there are countless threads on this...

As indicated by others, this is a very old debated question.

However, with your specification of "out of the box", the Browning is better. The Ruger needs a few tweaks and it's less user friendly to strip, clean, and reassemble. The Browning shoots quite well out of the box, particularly, if you get one that comes with the fiber optic front sight.

I'd heard that the Buck Mark was a pain to strip down and clean but when I bought mine, the manual specifically said not to strip it down. Basically, all you do is what one of the above posters said; bore snake and clean the bolt face. Maybe the easiest gun in the world to maintain. Thousands of rounds through mine and no problems. Very accurate as well. A pleasure to shoot.

Another vote here for the Browning Buck Mark. I find it and the Ruger MKIII comparable in most every way but the Browning is more forgiving with various brands of .22LR in my experience.

I will echo the advice given above - try both and choose the one that best fits your hand. Either way, you will have a quality .22 that should provide many years of enjoyment.

I vote Buck Mark too, and theirs really no need to completely break them apart to clean them, unless you like doing that kind of thing.
