    High end 22LR pistol

I have a basic Buckmark and it's great. But considering something along the lines of a Colt Woodsman target or S&W 41, or ??? Some high quality competition worthy pistol.

I'd probably want to get this while SSE is still available.

What would you choose and why?

    Let's say the budget is < $1K.

Smith 41 can be had within you budget if you look hard enough. It's the standard in your price range.

<$,1000.....Find you a 41..they're jaw dropping awesome to shoot. I've owned both the 5.5" heavy and 7"...I personally prefer the 7". The older High standards and Brownings are very nice too, but the 41's are still current production. Good luck

The S&W Model 41 is exempt from the roster:

That takes care of the easy part. The trick is trying to find one.

              Good luck.

Another vote for the S&W 41.

I'm not a pistol guy, but a friend let me shoot his once at a bullseye match. First time out, 92 points at 25 yards........ again - I'm not a pistol guy, I just wandered over there from the 3 position .22 rifle match I had just completed to see how my friend was doing.

I bought one shortly thereafter. They are GREAT .22 target pistols, and you will never regret owning one.......... assuming you can find one for a sane amount of money.

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

The 41 is what I set the price around. Was wondering if there were other considerations.

Good to know about the roster.

Anything to look out for on these? Any era changes to note? I saw one NIB that appears matte finished rather than polished blue.

You and no one alive can buy it for any price. It is impossible to rent and cannot be lent.

The finishes got worse over the years especially when they stopped using certain chemicals( blame EPA) . Mine is a mid 80's and did have a nice finish, but had it parkerized to stand up to Alaska climate( my favorite squirrel and rabbit gun). People will say they are not worth the hype, but they are great guns.

                            I have several .22 pistols.My 41 is my favorite.

Pros -Is beautiful, accurate,Made in USA.Magazines and parts readily available.Still in production.

Cons-A little sensitive to being dirty. Will not keep running without regular cleaning.
                            A little expensive,but you won't regret it.
