50 YR Old Marlin at the Range

Just for something to do, I added a scope mount and a Mueller I had laying around.

Loaded it with Wolf Match Target just to see how the 50 year old "Revelation 120" shot.

    Much to my surprise.....

Nice! My Marlin bolt action has always been a great shooter too. Mine came new in 1963 for my ninth BD.

My dad bought this one in 1960 and handed it down to me recently.

Had no idea it would shoot this well. That's 5 shots, 3 in the same hole.

The Model 60s, 99s and even the 99M1 are just plain accurate, as are all Marlin Rimfires.

I think this one is "pre - Micro Groove", too

Yes, likely if it does not say Microgroove on the barrel you have a early one that is just a 99. Made from maybe 59 to 61.

I believe the 99c went to the Microgroove and the 99M1s too... Easy to tell by looking at the rifling.

              Forgot. Very nice old Marlin.

I remember my dad buying it at a local hardware chain called "Western Auto" here in Texas.

They sold Marlins as the "Revelation" brand.

He used to shoot nutria rats with it in the local marshes until 1961 when hurricane Carla wiped them out.

So, it had to have been purchased before 1961.

That sounds right in the range for yours. I have a 99M1 made in 1970. It is of course the Microgroove barrel.

If you do not know this, the 99 was the Grandfather of the Model 60.

Nice shootin by the way. Impressive.

Very nice rifle and nice shootin! Wolf Match Target is made by Lapua in Germany. Great 22LR ammo!

Nice shooting. I need to put a scope on my Glenfield and or marlin 60 to see what it can do. I have some Eley to try when I do.

Nice rifle. My dad had one of the Western Auto Revelation/Marlins. It was the first gun I ever shot. Good memories.
