The Patch Worm is another option for cleaning from the rear. Just google it.

Why would you clean a 10/22?

I drilled a 1/4" hole in the back of the receiver. Works fine, doesn't show when assembled. Lots of pics online how to do it.

How long has John's drilling jig thread been active at RFC, for nearly two years now? To date, those jigs have been circulated between 49 states, and are still actively circulating.

Personally, I think pulling a boresnake through the barrel and calling it good is dinosaur logic, but to each his own.

Yeah, I've seen that. Couple hundred takers give or take so far. Did yours in June, eh. Did it make an accuracy difference or just make you feel like you knew something the other 999,800 10-22 owners didn't?

Nope, just made it easier to use a Dewey rod and nylon brush to clean my barrel.

otis cleaning cable with a remington squeegee and wipeout solvent.

I spray the solvent into the barrel and receiver, let it sit 24-48 hrs, run the squeegee through <5 times, wipe and q-tip internals and I'm done.

yes, conventional wisdom does tell you to clean from the breach but only when that is possible with the firearms design.

think about the millions of firearm types that you can not do that from.
should we drill a hole in the back of every revolver frame?
bore snakes and more modern cleaning methods aside the only thing you have to be aware of is do not use a steel cleaning rod, unless you can't help it and then as the cleaning rod is coming through the barrel into the receiver area you could even use a rag to catch the excess dirt that you think might be contaminating the receiver area.

I also think if you drill a hole in the back of your receiver Ruger is never going to repair your gun if anything should go wrong with it.
