Yeah, I've gotten lucky a couple times and scored a couple bricks separately from Cabela's but the shipping is outrageous. The shipping was $8.95 each time.

True, but still a lot less than $50 a brick.

The Bucket 'O Bullets and 2100 rounds in the ammo can show up on occasion, too. Score one of those and you'll end up paying about 5 cents per round shipped.

Funny how things can go round and round when discussed this way. Promise to be my last response to this. True s&d has influence in prices [houses, etc]. There is a choice that a retailer has to make. Go with the flow of what so many are doing or charge according to what our manufacturers are charging and base the price off that. For us, some inside info is my powder manufacturers [Hodgdon, IMR, Alliant have not raised their prices after the shootings and the addition of our new Pres.. They do a increase once every 1.5 years or so. Now for the 22s, I got my last shipment of Fed 525s last month for $17.60 ea. Pay shipping, tax, $4 profit equals $24.50 to my customer. And I am not an ammo dealer with special prices so they can be even better. So supply/demand did Not effect my customers because I chose to do the right thing.

Supply & demand does win out - even if we don't like the result. If your local Walmart is only getting 10 bricks per shipment, and those bricks sell in 10 minutes, then the local Walmart manager should be ordering more than 10 bricks. If the warehouse only has 10 bricks to ship to the store, then the warehouse should order more, if the manufacturer only has 10 bricks to ship to the warehouse, then he should make more. On & on it goes until you get all the way back to the guys working in the copper, zinc & lead mines. If the demand can't be met, the price goes up, and keeps going up until you (the consumer) refuse to pay it -or- until the higher price allows new suppliers to enter the market -or- until a new technology is found that allows a different product to replace the current product.

One way or another, the market will reach an equilibrium. It just may not be the price point we want and it may not be in the time frame we wish...

My take on the 22 shortage

I think it relates to how many bought 22-It was always something you could pick up on the way to somewhere relatively cheap so no one really worried about it. When the panic buying started, everyone felt they had to stock up and the artificial shortage was created.

Actually u might need to rethink it over. These friggin flippers must have no employment or life and such to be staking out wallys 22 ammo stock at 4am and then bringing the entire family in to wait in line before 7am. Its not hoarding. Its just being a douchebag asset contributing to the future cost of our shooting sports.

Let's say there are 3 flippers who go to a specific walmart every morning. They know that walmart only receives 10 bricks per shipment. That said, they split the ammo, 3 boxes each. That leaves 1 box on the shelves, for the average joe to purchase. If "flippers have nothing" to do with the shortage, than we could assume that in the example above, more than 1 average joe would be able to purchase a brick of .22. This however, is clearly not true.
^^^this. Ask the workers at the sporting goods register and they will say its the same douche bags that shows up to get the 22 every morning at 7am

That's exactly what I was told. Funny how so many in the community talk about it being close knit, then turn around and flip a product to fellow shooters.

Lots of these flippers arent really shooters or calgunners so to speak. They are just trying to profit and care less about our 2a. You know the flippers here thats been selling ammo at the outrageous prices. When they post up pics of their 22lr inventory and its in pallet size stacks more than any lgs even have in stock at anytime. These fools disgusts me and imo is a disgrace to the calguns name. They dont contribute anything useful to any threads and all their posts counts consist of "bump, back to top, sold, for sale, price drop, bump, bump, bump"

I was just on the PSA site looking for something else. They have bricks for 10 cents a round(More than I will pay). I know the price is high but it's the first time I have seen it there in a while. I think things are cooling off.

People have been saying that for the last 12 months, I don't see it yet

All I can hope for is that all these flippers get stuck w/ a heap of ammo when the market comes back to reality. At least .223 / 5.56 has come back down. 12ga is also becoming reasonable. hopefully .22lr isn't to far off. That's all I can hope for as a shooter w/ kids.

There are thousands of shooters in CA who will now be less inclined to panic buy ammo, it should help the .22 shortage a little. I know I am not desperately looking for .22 like I was when it looked like a ammo mail order ban was coming down the pipeline.

It does look like the shortage has improved in the last few months, gunbot.net lists .9, .10 and .11 a round .22 lr usually always in stock. Ammo at that price used to be gone in minutes, most people has stopped paying outrageous prices and are only going for the cheaper stuff which is good.
