My dad taught me how to shoot on a black one. I hope he still has it.

The nylon is tube fed, so magazines are moot with this design.
I prefer it because it has a bit more history than the 10/22. Furthermore I have fondled many Rugers in stores, and, well... That rifle just doesn't do it for me. I don't care for them.
Though the Ruger was a tad cheaper. But if I wanted cheap I may as well get a Mossberg Plinkster. So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

Take half of a binocular, tape it to your rifle.Comment

Great 22 rifles. Google for more info, you'll find that Mohawk Brown was the most common one. Seneca Green is very desirable as is the Black. Can't remember if the Black with white diamonds is higher value than the Black without.
We lived in Watsonville 1955 to June 1959 and our neighbor kid had one and was showing it off to my older brothers in late 1958 or early 1959.
I've got a Mohawk brown and a Black CBC (?) model made for KMART. It functions just like the original Nylon 66.
You can take the bbl off, and the Receiver cover for cleaning. I highly recommend you don't take the internals apart as some gunsmiths don't even know how to put them back together. The receiver cover is light weight sheetmetal and prone to rusting/ and/or pitting. If it's parkerized it's been refinished. Cabela's Reno sells the Mohawk browns for around $300 including refinished or pitted ones, they may deal on price but not usually more than $25.
I have the "tube type" speed loader for mine and it's great, drop in 12 rds in the buttstock magazine insert follower, shoot those rounds and quickly reload.
6 or so tubes preloaded with 22lr is kinda handy.
I had the Model 10 (I think it was) a detachable mag fed Nylon 66 variant jamomatic, sold it and swore to never buy another like it. The Nylon 66 is very dependable, the scope is usually something like a 1.5 power scope and the mount is thin sheet metal so it "bites" the grooves on top of the receiver.Comment

I don't have my reference material with while travelling but I think that might be the holy grail for Nylon 66 Collectors. Chrome receiver cover and the white diamonds, or is it the one with Black Diamonds? The chrome does ramp up the value to a collector though.Comment
