I've never heard of CCI quiet rounds. I do however have a few hundred CCI CB & CB shorts.

It is .22 short brass loaded with a double long bullet to bring it to .22LR dimensions.

          Super quiet.
60 grain bullet at 950 fps.

It drops like a rock before 100 yards.
Designed for 1 in 7 to 1 in 9 barrels. Will sometimes keyhole in 10/22s.

I like the CCI Quiet but I have good luck with this stuff too:

People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

I've had a lot of luck with the Cbee round. About as loud as a high power pellet rifle.

I occasionally see CCI Quiet on the shelf. Is it actually significantly lower noise than standard .22? I mean, are we talking hearing protection not required, or just a little less of a bang?

You need eyes, but you definitely don't need ears.

No hearing protection required with cci quiet, sounds like a cap gun.

That's very cool. Personally, I like the idea of low noise rounds. Overall performance may be somewhat compromised, but it's a tradeoff. These would be perfect for teaching my son how to shoot.

Just curious, are there low noise center fire cartridges? Or is that not even possible?

I know that Winchester makes low noise 12/20 ga. shells, but I've been told they're still pretty loud.

Picked up some today at Sportsman's Warehouse Roseville. Only 50 round boxes $3.49 each (3 box Max). Seems a bit more expensive than the last time I bought them, but that may have been at Wal-mart some time ago.
