    10/22 chain fire

Out shooting today at BLM, and a friend brought his 10/22.
He fired the first shot of the mag, and it chain fired two more rounds, then stovepiped.
I heard it over the other noise and went "whoa".
He had a scared look on his face. I looked at the rifle and noticed the ejector was gone. I dont know if it was a result of three shot burst or not. Couldn't find anything on the ground.
I told him disassemble the rifle immediately and lock it up in case LE showed up.
What can cause this? Anyone know?

Stuck disconnecor maybe. Sounds like hammer follow-thru. If it is factory, I'd have him contact Ruger and get that sorted right away.

Dirty and Stuck Firing Pin, and final round was probably out of battery when it popped.

Yup. Check to make sure that last bullet left the barrel and is not stuck in there. Its very typical of a 10/22 to launch the extractor ( I'm guesting you ment to say extractor, the ejector in on the trigger housing, not bolt.)out when a round fires out of battery.

Had that happen on an ATI, gun goes back to manufacture next day with polite note to fix. If your not expecting it, there is a certain amount of shock when it does happen.

Yes, the extractor. The hooky thing that goes sideways
He's kind of a noob with guns and it's the father of my sons' girlfriends. (I have two sons he has two daughters, before the wisecracks start)
I'm trying to help him out after a little family bonding over gunfire. Both rifles he brought were not working well. Gonna have to teach him some maintenance stuff.

Had this happen one time on one of our AR 22s. Our problem was a dirty neglected trigger group. Once cleaned it went away.

It was fun for a little bit, but can get you into trouble and cost you lots of money..

I cannot find the story right now but this happened to a guy at a range and he was arrested, tried and eventually exonerated, but it cost him alot in Money and aggravation to be acquitted of it. Those A Holes at ATF will do anything to anybody if they have a chance. Be careful..

Illegal possesion of a machinegun, wont matter that it was a malfunctioning legal firearm BATF/state wont care.

I would think state charges of possessing an automatic weapon, and fed charges the same w/o a tax stamp. But I don't know for sure. Hence the reasoning behind having him disassemble the rifle immediately.

Should be simple enough to prove your innocence. The law uses a lot of phrases like knowingly, deliberate, manufactures, and modifies. If all you did was put ammo in it and pull the trigger, a malfunction followed by automatic disassembly(partial) doesn't sound like manufacturing an automatic weapon.

You have to understand who you would be dealing with in this circumstance. These are not rational people with common sense. They are Thugs. Ask this guy that had this happen how simple it was.

It devastated him financially and emotionally... And there is nothing he can do to get reparations for what they wrongfully did to him..

Two points sir. I hadn't had my coffee yet and tried to use common sense on CA gun law.

Unless you keep using it in that condition.
