    Marlin 795 or 60?

Is one better than the other? Better accuracy because of 1" longer barrel? Is one less prone to having issues(FTF, FTE, etc) or eats more types of ammo due to the different feeding mechanisms?

This will be a range plinker and I'll probably add a cheap scope but that's the extent of modding.

I don't have much experience with tube feed except for shotguns. I'll probably be slower to reload the 60 but on the plus side I don't have to buy extra mags. The 14 vs 10rd limit doesn't matter either. Just looking for a cheap little range plinker.

Basically the 795 is a product improved model 60, think M1A versus M1 Garand. It's just too bad that the 795 has a synthetic stock, I'd love it if somebody made an aftermarket wood one.

My thoughts exactly! I like my 60 because of the wood stock. Both are great plinkers, reliable.

I like the 60 for both the tube magazine and the wood stock too...no extra mag purchases!

i love my 60 tube fed. i prefer it over magazines unless you need to do tactical speed reloads, which i doubt thats what you want a 60 for.

I have a 795 and wish I had gotten a 60. It would be nice not keeping track of the mags and not have it sticking out of the gun when hunting.

I have a marlin model 60 as my first rifle at 18. Its very accurate and I just shot it too 200 feet headshots no problem. Never shot the 795. But more ammo in tube is less reloading.

For Appleseed or as a trainer complement to a larger magazine-fed rifle, the 795 is slightly better. But both will work in that capacity.

For small game hunting, horseback, etc., I'd prefer the 60. The tube feed has the advantage of not interfering with your support hand, fits into a scabbard better, and won't get lost.

There used to be a wood-stocked 795, called the Model 70. You may be able to find one, or a replacement stock, if that matters to you.

I have had a 795 for a handful of years and just love it. I have shot some 60's before and they are just as nice. Ultimately, I think it comes down to the loading mechanism - Do you want changeable magazines or tube fed?

As for stocks, I got rid of the synthetic stock and added this laminate stock from Boyd's. That stock made a great gun even greater because the laminate stock was a lot larger and heavier than the synthetic.

I am not sure if the 60 can take this (I would assume so) but for the 795 you should definitely add peep sights from Tech-Sights. They will make a world of a difference.

Those sights along with a larger laminate stock makes the 795 a spectacular .22. You might have a harder time adding a stock to a 60 because of the tubular mag (although I could be wrong about that).

The gun in my avatar is a 795 (obviously a modified stock). My wife has a 60 that shoots exactly the same as mine.

I prefer the 60. I had a 795, but I hated loading the clips (as Marlin calls them) so I ditched it and got a pre-86 60 with the 18 shot magazine.

The glenfield squirrel model? Hard to find those these days for a fair price.

The same Tech Sights work on the 795 and the 60. Receiver and front sight (replaced if you put on Tech Sights) are the same between models.

Here's my dressed up Model 70 (closer to a 795), turned into an "LTR." This is about as far as the easy upgrade path goes -- not a whole lot to do, which is either good or bad depending on how much you like messing with stuff vs. actually shooting.

I would take the 60 over the 795 also..
