Stevens Rifle 80 Years Later

My father was with the 36th out of Texas and was in the first wave to land on the beaches of Southern France. While he was in Europe, he picked up two pistols. The first was likely the 1934 model Bretta in 9mm Corto (.380). The second was a WWI vintage Spanish Izarra in 7.65mm (32acp). I have the military paperwork stating both were war trophies. But the pistol he liked the best was his 1942 byf Luger that he bought from a Missouri gun dealer for 35 bucks in 1948 while he was living and attending school in San Francisco. He liked it so much that he made custom grips for it, likely inspired by the sweetheart grips he made for the Izarra. I have all three pistols today and all are in good shooting condition.

Nice picture and story.

Dad was also in the European theatre. He arrived D-day +6 with the 8th AF as a radar engineer.

He brought back a Polish pistol that he couldn't get ammo for so he traded it in the 60's for his High Standard .22 pistol. Yes I learned how to shoot that also.
