    Another Pheonix HP22 Thread

I picked up my HP22A from my local FFL a couple weeks ago and finally had a chance to do a short shooting range trip on the way back from Reno.

    1. The pistol feels good in hand and I will be getting a few extended grip mags and the 5" bbl for it soon.

    2. Yeah the safeties take a little education, but no big deal.

    3. 100 rds of soild points and 50 rds of hollow points and not a single hiccup.

    4. I'm glad I got this pistol before they drop off Roster.

    5. Yes the frame is "Alloy" but so is the GSG 1911 an alloy frame. (I read somewhere awhile back the GSG's were having cracked frame issues also)

    6. Thumb got sore reloading the mags was my only issue.....so far.

This probably concludes my "new" handgun purchases for awhile.

I wasn't able to get the Deluxe Kit from Buds as they stated it's illegal to ship these to Calif. After trading emails with Buds "we cannot ship an HP22ABB (black/blue barrel), HP22ANB(Nickle barrel) or HP22ARM (Rangemaster) into CA if the product numer isn't the same as the CA Roster". Ok, I've run across this issue before and understand why. HOWEVER upon doing some research on the Pheonix Arms Site, and receiving my pistol I realized this:
The additonal 2 lettesr added to the Buds description of Model number appear NOWHERE on the Pheonix Arms website, the pistol box, OR the pistol itself. If you take the first letter of each of the words in the Roster description you will have the same letter added to the Bud's Model number. So it's actually Buds own inventory system that is adding the letter to the description which in turn doen't match the Model number on the Roster but DOES match the written description on the Roster! So it's Buds themselves that are stepping on their own a ....... foot here, and denying a legal sale to a CA resident. What a bunch of pinheads, and of course when I emailed them with all the details of their screwup and examples they've never bothered to respond to me.

Just order the missing parts from the range kit from Phoenix arms website directly. I personally liket he short barrel better than the long and wish i had just gotten an extra standard mag.

Yeah I got the range kit and am dang happy with the pistol. I also like the shorter barrel. Best ammo I have run is the CCI standard velocity. I heard a few things about these pistols but as a plinker it is awesome, grandkids love to use it, probably have close to 1000 rds down it with not one problem.

and 45 rds of American Eagle 38gr hollow point, I know this is "hypervelocity" but the only 22 HP I had to test with. I'm looking for standard velocity HP's now.

Maybe I'll hold off on the 5" bbl, but get a few more mags. Any tips on loading those mags? Guess I could wear leather thumb cover.

Loading those magazines is the hardest part of shooting the HP22A. A well-fit leather glove or a nylon mechanic's glove helps save the thumb and fingers. Or just forgo the 10th round.

Although some gun snobs sneer at it, it's easy and fun to shoot! The size and weight of the pistol make it great for kids just learning. The trigger on mine is better than some .22 pistols costing twice as much. Who cares if it's made of molded pot metal. If the frame cracks, it's got a lifetime warranty.

            Have fun with yours!

                    Thanks!

I'll go with the glove fer now.

IF the frame cracks is there a specific location these are cracking in?

Inside the magwell near the corners.

I just bought one 2nd hand and still have to shoot it. Seems like a great pistol though.

Well, every handgun on the Roster has an expiration date. That doesn't mean much. Phoenix (or any manufacturer) can continue to pay the fee to renew so they can stay on.

Have you specifically heard that Phoenix will not be paying the renewal fee and will let the gun fall of the Roster? I work in the business and haven't heard that. In fact, I'd be surprised since they sell so well and they have so many safeties to be Ca approved.

Haven't "heard or read" anything about them paying the extortion fees to renew only the noted expiration date on the Roster, which other pistols recently fell off of due to not renewing the fees.
