Been training my boy in firearms safety & handling for awhile now. For his 10th birthday I took him shooting air rifles for the first time, and took him shooting real firearms for the first time today as a Father Son trip out to the desert... happy to say he did great! He was completely serious about safety and procedures, trigger discipline especially.
He also appears to be a very steady shot. First 5 shots were dead on the mark, with iron sights on a vintage Czech .22 bolt action rifle which I purchased from a member here. He was extremely consistent in hitting what he wanted to hit.
Having seen that he was doing great on iron sights, I moved him on to a Ruger 10/22 with optics, and he really had a blast with that!
He then fired a vintage Rohm cowboy style .22 revolver, as well as a Sig 1911-22. (His favorite of the day was the Sig)
Set em up & knock em down was the order of the day.
As for me, I got to fire my freshly modified Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader (8 round tube, 18.5" barrel) and thoroughly enjoyed decimating targets with that.
Unfortunately, my vintage Mossberg New Haven 250C which I recently rebuilt still did not cycle properly. Seems there is a problem with the magazine fitment - it is not allowing the bolt to cycle when the mag is fully inserted and snapped into place. It's a stamped steel mag, so it may have just been a bad pressing in need of some fine adjusting. Will be taking a closer look at that soon.

Afterward, we policed brass from not only our site, but several other shooting sites, in an effort to leave the place better than we found it.
He was pretty excited to keep finding casings all over the place... anyway, great day of adventure together!
