IN your price range it's possible to find Remington 504's. Mine shoots one tiny 3 shot hole at 50 yards. They were a limited run assembled in the custom shop and feature a semi match grade chamber. Feels like a smaller model 700.

          Ooh, that's nice.

I do like my CZ, though. It's good to have choices.

The Brno sights can be bought from Brnoman. (Denny) ajakubec@aol.com He also has some on E bay from time to time.

He may be a little hard to get hold of. Last I heard he was out of the country on business. Email him, tell him what you need, he will usually get back to you when he can.

I've emailed Denny twice within the past couple months with no response yet. Has anyone had any luck?

I have trying to find a free weekend to take my son to an Appleseed. It's been hard to do. We shoot a lot on our own and I want him to take his shooting (and mine!!) to the next level.

That being said, yes, bolt actions are great guns and lots of fun to shoot. And starting on bolts is a great idea. It's perfect for teaching safety, marksmanship, etc. everyone, adults and kids, should have a bolt 22. And a lot of other things too!!

However semi auto firearms are modern and in common use. They are the modern musket. They are what free people own and shoot and are prepared to use in defense of life and liberty. It's what those crazy colonials would have had if they were available.

To be a nation of riflemen we must train on the rifles in common use. There's nothing wrong with having an event designed to prepare young Americans on the modern firearms in common use of the day. As weapons have evolved so too should our training.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

rocketman answered question to others that kids aren't left out if what they have is a bolt action. That is what I thought was wrong.

I agree we must train on rifles in common use, I have 10/22s they're my favorite 22s, but when I was a kid my Dad made me learn on bolt & lever actions. I don't think I would have liked it if I was left out.

Another thing to think about is the bolt action is still in common use and most people don't know how to use it to its full potential for both speed and accuracy.
I think I remember reading that back in the day the British gave the M1 Garand a run for the money with their Enfields in competition.

I have a CZ 452,455, and a Ruger 77/22. I would recommend any one of the three. I think the CZ's are about half the price with accuracy, fit, and finish being equal. The Ruger American looks like a cheap toy compared to these in my opinion.

The Gunny proved that the m1 is superior!

I LOVE my CZ 513 which is an entry level CZ rimfire that I got for about $300. I think its been replaced by the "trainer." I wasn't going to spend $500 on a bolt action .22, but I just lucked out when the gun shop steered me to the CZ. It is so freakin accurate. With a nice scope, and a rest, I'll shoot at shotgun hulls at 100yds and hit them 9 out of 10 times with bulk federal ammo. I did free float the barrel with a little sanding, and gave it a homemade trigger job as well. If I ever got another one, or had it to do over, I'd get the FS. I really like the look of the stock that goes to the end of the barrel.

I will echo the opinions of many here and recommend the CZ's. Either the 452 or 455 and pretty much any style/model. My two favorites are the 452 Trainer and Ultra Lux. Stupid accurate out of the box for the money. In my first Appleseed I missed qualifying with my 10/22 (not even close but I was absolutely new to position shooting too). The guy next to me shot 2 Rifleman scores with his CZ 455. Practicing what I learned after the first shoot I signed up for the next one and shot 2 Rifleman scores with my 452 Trainer in my second Appleseed. It is easier to shoot score with a semi-auto but there is an extra bit of satisfaction in qualifying with a bolty.
