@ whiterabbit: Little snippet according to wikipedia...apparently .30-06 and 7.62x51 were calibers that were previously used, before being standardized across .22LR. Wow. Source.

That looks more like a competition small bore rifle, not a biathlon rifle.

You can buy Izhmash Biathlon 7-4 for @ $1000 for used or @ $1500 new. It uses toggle action similar to Fortner action used in Anschutz, but it is easier to maintain and take apart. Izhmash is also simpler to dry fire with. It comes with a lot of goodies - mags, spare parts, harness, etc.

You can re-barrel Izhmash with Anschutz SS barrel.
Izhmash action and trigger are very, very good, but barrel is not as good as Anschutz in very cold weather, but you have to be really good to see the difference. You would also need to use ammo designed for biathlon, i.e. low temp, with hotter primers and special powder and lube for bullets like Lapua Polar Biathlon .22lr. Regular match ammo doesn't work well in cold temp.

Yea I was looking last night at midway, they had eley tenex biathlon 22lr, it was like $24 for 50 rounds!
