Olympics biathlon rifles

Was watching the biathlon and wondering about what they were shooting. Announcers didn't ever say anything about them. I figure they're 22 and finally saw a close up and saw it was an Anschutz. Pretty sweet with the one finger cycling of bullets. Anybody else watch this? Thoughts?

Anschutz are standard Now. There was a time when izhmash and biakal were on every soviet bloc teams.
Re watched dvr and I think I saw izhmash on the ukr team

I think the USA used marlins at one point. Not too sure.

^ I'm sure the ammo they're feeding their rifles, is whatever the rifle happens to "like".

That being said, I'm sure the usual sub-sonic suspects can be assumed here: Eley, Lapua, etc.

And the inner target is a golf ball and the outer is the size of a grapefruit!

I got to thinking, they need to be shooting centerfire. something like a 300 win mag or an 8x57 or even 375 H&H. Something where the biathletes have to choose between a lightweight rifle vs getting beat up by the recoil. Make it more challenging!

Distance is 50 meters.
Sizes are 45mm / 1.77 in while prone; 115mm / 4.5 in while standing. I think the outer diameter is always 115mm.

Rifle weight is a minimum of 3.5 kilos/7.7 lb not counting ammunition and magazines.

It's called a fortner action. If you look on the ISSC website, they have a video of that action working.
