Father-in-law invited me to shoot some 22 rimfire matches with him that require tube fed rifles. I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on rifles that fit the criteria and will keep me reasonably competitive without breaking the bank. Had my eye on a Mossberg 46b, but couldn't find one with the front sight hood still.

I have only shot two tube fed .22 rifles - Henry lever action H001 and Marlin 60 (semi auto) - and both are excellent.
Each one should cost around $300.
Not sure if this is of any help

Bolt gun like the Remington 512, Mossberg 46, pump will be Savage 29, Winchester Model 62, Remington model 12a, 572 etc and the Semi auto like Marlin 60, Winchester Model 63 and more. I do like the bolt over the pump or Semi auto is that they are a bit more accurate.

I have four Mossberg 46 models. The two B's , B-A , and a B-B and they are all really good shooters with sub-sonic ammo. If a front sight hood is what was missing from the one you where looking at. Then Repop hoods can be found on Ebay for about $12 shipped. The 146B and B-A are also Mossberg tube fed bolt actions and a very good long distance shooter. I don't think you can go wrong with a MossbergFather-in-law invited me to shoot some 22 rimfire matches with him that require tube fed rifles. Try a Savage 5 putting a Lyman 57 TS as the rear sight and a Globe style front sight with changable inserts or even a Savage 100 front sight If you like a semi-auto, try the Savage 6 with the same sight setup.

They had the 18 round cap till 1990. The most desirable Model 60s in my opinion are the ones made from 1985 to 1990.
Those years had the three most desirable features all at the same time. Last Shot Bolt Hold Open, 18 round mags yet, and the 22 inch barrels..Only those 5 years was this true....
I would not trade my Model 60s from that era for two new ones of current manufacture.Comment
