I bought an Advantage Arms 22 conversion for the Glock about 4years ago, switching was easy. I was very lucky to buy a frame so it became a dedicated 22 pistol. Only issues were feeding but I read online about adjusting the mag lips and then the problems were seldom like all 22's. Handled just like a G22 but was a lot lighter, no duh, right. Had a Kimber conversion but it was very finicky, only liked CCI mini mags and switching from 22 to 45 was a bit much, guess you could call me lazy. No last shot slide hold open.
I now have 2 M&P22's and a GSG with modifications (CWA slide, trigger, MSH, red dot etc). Both are a blast to shoot and I shoot both in matches with no problems. The plastic guide rod on the GSG broke after several thousand rounds so I bought a steel one from CWA and the factory sent me a new one so I have a spare. The M&P's barrel will lead up faster but when accuracy starts to fade I just clean the barrel. It's not so bad with plated ammo. The jury is still out on how long the slides will hold up, one reason I bought a CWA slide for the GSG.
A buddy had an old Walther/S&W that had slide separation just behind the front sight. Because it was a Walther/S&W it was not under warranty so it cost him $45.00 to replace.
My Ruger MKI and MKII are tanks and will shoot anything and will last forever.
Holsters for the Glock, M&P and GSG use their center fire counterpart the Rugers you need to buy one that fits.
hope this helps, if you have any other questions shoot me a pm.Comment

They're as common as a Sasquatch sighting. Part of the problem is as soon
as folks figured out that the 10 rounders were easily converted to 12's everyone bought up all the 10's up too.
But that should not be a deal breaker, the M&P 22 is a great pistol, and as many have already said get it soon or say goodbye. I jailed mine day after Christmas, and have already gone through 1000 rounds with only 3 ftf's and 1 fte.

I have an Advantage Arms Conversion kit for my XD9 and it worked perfectly with the recommended ammo. I'll be getting one for my RIA 1911 Tartical sometime in the future. Had a Kimber 22 kit from Miwday that wouldn't even install properly. Sent it back for refund and waited for Advantage Arms to come out with the XD9 kit.My advantage arms conversion kit for my glock has been stellar and down right fun.
Mags are cheap and plentiful, don't have to buy another holster, and not another pistol to dros.
They're a local company, and they're actually phasing out their first gen conversions, but still going to back it up and support it.
And granted, there are tips and tricks like find what ammo works (mine hates auto match), but clean up the ramp, take off the flashing on the magazines, etc.Comment

I also have an AA kit for my Glock 17. Reliable and accurate and very easy to switch over. No complaints and I'm contemplating hard if I want to get their 1911 kit or buy the GSG 1911... AA kit locks back on last round.NRA Member, CAPRC MemberComment

Do you intend to be very proficient with your G19 and compete with it? If so, a conversion might be worthwhile. If it's just for plinking and occasional range trips, and you are not set on the Glock platform, a separate pistol might be worthwhile. 22 handguns and conversion kits may be pickier with ammo in general vs centerfire pistols. Or maybe the 22 cartridge itself is less reliable.

Had the same questions. The other factor we have to deal with now is the CA Handgun Roster--specifically expiration dates of specific models and the likely supply and demand leading up to the expiration date. Shrinking supply, shrinking roster, and you may have only one option on the conversion kit if you don't move quickly.
S&W MP22 falls off the roster in May. I don't think SW will renew it so kiss it goodbye in CA after May.
You may want to look at the ISSC M22. It's supposed to be same dimensions as G19 and will fit in your current G19 holsters. (It expires March 26th) Will they renew it? Who knows but do you want to take a chance?
Here's one review of it. http://www.gunblast.com/ISSC-M22.htm
What I saw was a long unknown wait on conversion kits (3-9 months from one source) and decided to get a dedicated 22. I don't like to wait.Comment

No not competing. Just want a 22 pistol to shoot plink and train my offsprings with.Comment

I have 2 Glock 23's and 2 Advantage Arms 22LR conversions for classes with kids, women & beginners. The 22LR is a cheap ways to teach others without that massive 40sw bang, kick, noise that scares most away!
Burro Canon Example: 2 boys about 12 each. Both have a Glock23 with 22LR. Both have the JOB of loading and shooting a CAN from the 20ft point to the back of the Burro Canon Range! That's the best example of teaching with excellent results!Calling 911 is for Victims!

I have an ar15 with .22 insert. It works well for me. I use CCI ar15 22 calb. And a red dot scope. I just love it.Comment

I have both (conversion kit on my Beretta and a Buckmark). I would say it depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
For pure fun and accuracy, go with a dedicated target .22 like a Buckmark, MKII or MKIII, etc.
For training to be more efficient with your Glock, the conversion kit is the way to go.Comment

part 2
Mounted the slide on the frame. Put a round into the breach face held in place by the extractor. The nose of the bullet could just be in the chamber if the rnd won't stay in place. Close the slide slowly. I noticed that as the bullet chambered and the extractor contacted the ramped cut out, the ramp caused the extractor to pull away from the bullet rim. This shouldn't be an issue if the round fires because the fired brass should start to push out of the chamber and the extractor comes off the ramped cut out. But if I had a misfire or the fired round failed to extract, like before I fixed my mags the extractor couldn't grab enough of the rim to pull it out and I'd have to use a brass rod. What I did was to use a needle file and remove metal from in front of the hook never taking any metal from the hook tip until the extractor didn't pull away when the slide was in battery with rnd under the extractor What I have now is 100% hook extraction. In fact now if I chamber a rnd first and then slowly lower the slide I hear a distinct click as the extractor wraps around the bullet rim. I also stretched the extractor spring a little. Also what I did, since the rnd that was against the breach face wouldn't stay in place while held by the extractor, I noticed that the walls of the breach face where they met the breach face were a little rounded so I used a jewelers screwdriver to scribe them square. Now when I extract a fired brass slowly I have the case held straight until it hits the ejector. In fact if I pull the brass completely out of the chamber but before hitting the ejector and then push the slide forward, the brass goes right back into the chamber. Did I go overboard on my how to? Quote:
I have been trying to figure out a way to get the extractor to extract both Federal and Winchester .22's
Both mine (21 and 23) will not extract either of the above rds. and I wish they would so I could quit using the Rem. G.B. pks. I get a lot of mis-fires and weak sounding rds. with them. If I could get them to work with the Federals it sure would help in keeping .22's on hand as my Cieners(1911 & AR's) work great with them
I don't think I will ever get Feds to work reliably. Before I figured out what was wrong with my mags, Fed, Win, and sometimes Rem fired brass wouldn't extract. Now Rem GB, Rem Thunderbolt, Win Wildcat, Win 333 bulk pack have all so far worked 100% of the time for me. But I think the Feds have two problems for me. The champions 525 pack and the American eagle will now extract but I have a lot of stove pipes or the extracted brass rim sometimes hits the rib on the next bullet in the mag causing the extractor to slip off. OK you can wake up now. I'm glad to see that someone is now making plungers for AA mags. John
I do have some plugs that do fit the 17 mag now. The pin has been sized down and works just fine. You do only get 13 rounds by getting my plug and I can only see one way to gain more.
By trimming down the Mag Follower at the top end to allow the spring to move up on the follower.
The spring compresses (bottoms out) and this is what stops the mag from holding more rounds.
I am not sure what other mags this will work and help in. Here is a image of my new plugs.
So I'm wondering it I could get my hands on some AA\G26 mag springs and Followers (would I need both the spring and follower?) with these plugs, could I potentially get at least 15 rounds in an AA\G17 mag?
I fired 100 rounds yesterday, and 100 today, out of my AA G19 conversion unit- I have six magazines, so it a bit easy to blow though some ammo. Anyway... had two double-feeds in the first magazine. Then, I realized this thing hasn't been used in 18 months, so I lubed it and it ran flawlessly thereafter. Duh... You guys having trouble, I dunno what to say. I am familiar with three other AA units in addition to mine; three are for the G19 and one for the G17. All run nearly 100%; each of them will choke a great once in a while... but they're .22s.
I usually clean the firing pin assembly and firing pin channel after every trip to the range. It's amazing how much carbon accumulate on these parts after 200 rounds. Same goes for the extractor and the safety; you'll be surprised how much carbon builds up inside these parts, especially if you run the kit wet. I think this kit performs 100% better and flawless when all of these parts are cleaned. Two hours of shooting with 40 grain round nose CCI Mini Mags and not a single failure to feed, extract or eject.
I agree . . . The firing itself is a mess. I run a patch(dabbed with a bit of M-Pro 7) through the firing pin channel and blow it out with canned air. I use a wooden skewer to clean up the very end of the firing pin channel where the front of the firing pin seats. You were right in the other thread . . . I wish I could completely disassemble the entire slide assembly. I really do not want to tackle all of the little fasteners without formal instructions..
Beside the slide cover plate and the firing pin assembly you can also remove the extractor pin (not really a solid/dowel pin just a inexpensive roll slatted spring pin) Then remove the extractor, the safety and the two springs. Advantage Arms sell all of these parts but do not recommend to remove them maybe because nce the rolled pin is remove a few times you can't re-use it. They're not intended to be removed many times.
My AA kit gave me many problems with FTE and casing being stuck in the chamber using CCIs. After reading this, I cleaned and polished the chamber, as well as filed the mags, and bought a box of the Reminton Goldens, and made sure to run the kit well lubricated. Success! Only 2 FTEs in 250 rounds, so may have just a wee bit more filing to do on the mag ears. I did have a few light strikes that DID go bang on a second attempt. Not sure about that one - clean striker channel? My sincere thanks to all who contributed to this thread!
I purchase a used 17/22 mag at a local gun show for only $10 bucks, it work fine but it fits a little tight and it won't drop free like my new ones, needs to be pulled out with my fingers, maybe because it's old? As you can see, it's also different from the ambi release mag that came with my new kit. Does anybody have any info about this mag? how old? Why it fit tighter?
http://advantagearms.hostasaurus.com...y_Code=GKParts Ok resurrecting this old thread because AA now sells magazine parts. Anyone modify their mags with the new parts to get higher capacity? Go to the AA web page choose magazines then choose glock now click on the plungers and the next page will bring up model choices. They are not going to indicate increased magazine capacity as the 26 plunger is for the 26 magazine. If you use it on the 21/20 magazine it will yield 13 round capacities.
How to improve the Advantage Arms .22cal Conversion Kit for Glock
Using a pin punch tap out the rolled slatted pin that holds the extractor and safety in place, removed both pieces, clean the accumulated carbons and do the polishing but if you don't feel comfortable removing any of these parts, DON'T ...., you still can polish them while installed. Parts to be polished:
#2) Firing Pin: Same contact points as the Glock pin plus the area covered by the spring. #3) Safety: Top and the two side ramps since they make contact with the vertical extension of the trigger bar. #4) Barrel: The length of the barrel plus the three flat surfaces of the receiver block (do not polish bottom and the cut where the rod seats) You can also polish the feed ramp and the chamber, using a Q-Tip, down to the length of the .22 casing and also the extactor ramped cut out, this will help in the feeding/extracting. #5) Ejector: Both sides (arrows shows contact parts)#6) Extractor: Only the edge in direct contact with the breech face. #7) Trigger bar vertical extension. Once you're done, add a drop of oil to the polished parts and... you're good to go! Sounds like a lot of polishing but you will end up with an extremely smooth Conversion Kit that will last for a while.
