Ruger 22/45 Target vs Ruger MkIII Competition

    Hi Guys,

Just put down deposit on Ruger 22/45 Target with removable grips at Turners.
Sales person told me that its falling off the roster in June, so I have some time to DROS it.

How is 22/45 Target compared to MKIII competition in term of accuracy? Is it worth spending little bit more and getting competition instead of 22/45 target? Please let me know which one you prefer and why? I can get only one so I am trying to pick the better one.

I am planning to replace the front 22/45 sight with Hi viz fiber optic sight, once it get it.. Don't like black on black sights.

I prefer the metal frame on the MKIII.I also like feel of it better.

Is there any way you can try them both?Range rentals local to you?

Ruger makes good barrels for both guns. They have been making .22s a long time.Doubt there is any noticable difference in accuracy between them.

    Buy what you like best.

If there is no difference in accuracy, I will get the cheaper 22/45.

      thanks

The accuracy difference between the two is so small that the average shooter isn't going to notice the difference. However, the one thing that's nice about a 22/45 is that the grip angle is the same as a 1911.

Whatever you decide on, it will be you're favorite pistol once you figure out how to consistently nail 100 yard shots.

You have until 2/3/14 to dros many MK111's. #10107 22/45 is done after 2/3/14, I just bought one & it was NOT at Turners.
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!

Just an opinion, but like S&W (and Ruger), firearm manufacturers need to start posturing against California lawmakers if they want to get changes made. In California, firearm lobbyists have been defeated and unless this blue state turns red,...

With that said, the threat of Ruger falling off the roster has not stopped me from buying my second Mark III Target a couple days ago.

How good can you shoot? How good can you make the pistol in terms of function & accuracy? Competition shooters generally "build" guns to their liking. I pick up my MK111 next week. Parts coming are as follows. Firing pin, extractor, adj. trigger/hammer/sear, performance spring kit, hammer bushing/LCI, front sight.

I am not a great shooter but want to get a good accurate pistol to improve my skills. Put down deposit on 22/45 with replaceable grips at Turners on Sun.

                  thanks

You will not be disappointed by the accuracy of either. I have a 5.5" MkII which is basically the same barrel assembly as the one you ordered and it is more accurate than I can shoot. One of my favorite things to do is to tape a playing card to the target on edge and try to split the card. Cheap and super fun.

Between the 22/45 target and the MkIII Competition, the only deciding factors I would go with are how comfortable it is and how balanced does it feel since you're dealing with different grip angles and different barrel lengths.

                      No, they are different.

That's exactly what I want to do with 22/45 as well :-) Want to try some trick shots, plinking gets boring pretty soon.

                        thanks

I like the look of MkIII competition but its around $200 more than 22/45, is there any advantage or performance difference with MKIII competition compared to 22/45. like better trigger etc ?
