Boyd SS Evolution - Illegal in California?

So today I decided to bite bullet and buy a Boyd SS Evolution for my marlin 795. Unfortunately, I received the following message:

"Do to circumstances beyond our control, stocks have been removed from your shopping cart due to restrictions on certain "shapes/stock features" at your shipping destination. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 2Z20523-1E-112."

As far as I understand there is no ban on "assault weapon features" with rimfire weapons. Even my local big 5 sells rimfire rifles with pistol grips. Can anyone explain to me why this stock is not available in California anymore? Was there new legislation passed this last year or is the more a CYA policy that Boyds is now using?

Also, are there any other quality pistol grip stocks available for the marlin 795? Any help is appreciated! Thank you

Seems like they just don't want to ship a thumbhole to Ca. They don't care what you're putting in it.

Boyds must be thinking of the original legislation that included rimfire firearms when these features were to become illegal. Guess they don't know that was changed. Kind of strange as I ordered and received a Blaster stock (with thumbhole) from them this past December.

bought 2 thumb hole stocks a few weeks ago, one for a savage93 bolt action 22wmr, one for a 10/22. They canciled the 10/22 order...... same deal.

Start calling and emailing Randy or Dorothy Boyd, and explain the law to them. Please let me know their response here.

Kinda funny considering my bone stock Savage MKII BSEV came from the factory with a Boyd Evo stock. I Walked right into my LGS and bought it off the wall. I think Boyd's needs to do a little research.

I called them today and got a generic "if we don't ship it to your area, there is some law prohibiting it" answer. I'm going to send a more detailed email with California gun laws and will reply with their answer. Thanks for all the input thus far.

I bought an Evolution stock for my 795 last December and had no problem with them shipping it to SoCal. Maybe a local limitation? BTW, I really like the feel of that stock.

You folks are piling on Boyds and blaming them for something the folks of California are responsible for. The Boyds didn't elect the idiots that made these laws.
