    Scope for cz 455

I managed to pick up a cz 455 American with a 20'' bull barrel. This rifle will be mainly for precision/target shooting. There are 4 scopes that I am currently looking at. Which scope will maximize the potential for the rifle? I'm looking for a scope less than $200.

    1. Nikon prostaff 3-9 x 40mm with bdc

    2. Simmons pro target 3-9 40mm

    3. Nikon p22 2-7 32mm

    4. Redfield battlezone tactical 22
    2-7 34mm

For hunting those ranges are great. But if it's for punching paper, is get into the next range if magnification and check into scopes above 10x.

No idea on their cost but you may feel limited at 9x

I agree with the above post. Also consider the Mueller APT or APV. I have the APT on my 455.
Stop calling them Lawmakers. It only encourages them.

Your original post didn't say which caliber your CZ 455 is, nor how far you intend to shoot.

I have the Nikon ProStaff 3-9 x 40 with BDC and it's more than adequate for the .22 LR it is mounted on. The rifle is zeroed at 50 yards, and it's quite easy (using Nikon's Spot On program) to hold over on target at 100 yards. I don't shoot the .22 LR more than that distance. If I'm shooting longer ranges than that, I shoot the next rifle.

I also have a CZ 455 Varmint Evolution .17 HMR with the . With the .17 HMR cartridge, I feel I can easily out distance the range of the Nikon ProStaff. The Mueller gives me the extra zoom to take advantage of the distance I can accurately shoot the .17 HMR.

If I'm choosing just based on the glass itself, I'd choose the Nikon, but the Mueller is a close second. YMMV

I have the Prostaff Rimfire w/BDC and really like it, but for your application you might want to look at the 3-9 x 40 Prostaff EFR.

The reticle is better suited to precision target shooting, and still in your price range.

+3 on the prostaff. It works well on the cz455. I've only shot out to 100-120 yards with it.

The vortex diamondback series is another great option. They can be found under $190

I forgot to mention it's for a 22lr. I will probably not use it pass 100 yards. Maybe 150 yard on occasion. I would prefer a bdc reticle. I have the nikon p22 on my ruger 10 22 and the set range hash marks are accurate.

I have a bull-barrel CZ 452. It wears a Weaver K4. However, if I intended to shoot it from a bipod / rest / bags I would probably move up to about 10 power. It is that accurate.

Of your listed choices I too would go with the Nikon Prostaff.

I also would not bother with a BDC in this application. You will probably be better served dialing in a precise come-up, particularly if you settle on a specific load that doesn't match the scope's assumptions. BDC's are best used in field situations where speed for accuracy is a worthwhile tradeoff -- I have one on my AR-15 and it works great, but that's a 2 MOA rifle. My CZ is much more accurate within its range.

Precision/Target shooting out to 150yds I would get no less than a 24X scope. For a fixed scope I would suggest the Weaver T-24 or a variable Weaver V-24 (6-24X). These scopes are not cheap but they have excellent glass, metal gears in the turrets instead of plastic and hold their value great for resale. T-24 ~ $350, V-24 ~$325. Might find for less if on sale.

The majority of precision rimfire shooters who are serious about precision use a 36X scope @ 50yds.

I suggest that you forget about BDC and MilDot reticles as they are just too thick for precision shooting. I say this assuming you want to shoot small MOA or Sub-MOA groups of 3-5 shots. Doubt that can be done consistently with less that a 24X scope with a 1/8" MOA dot reticle.

Check out Swift Premier Line of Scopes. They offer mildots in the higher powers.

I have a Simmons 6.5-20 with an adjustable objective. Midway has it on sale for $99 often. It is mounted on a 10/22 that I have done a lot of work to and does quite well.

another vote for the Mueller APT-APV family... and I am not just saying that because I am selling one.

i have a cz455 too. i went with the bushnell banner 3x9x40. i ended up getting 4 more for my other .22 rifles. in my experience, i think its a great scope for the price. my kids have no problem at 50yards. not sure about 100yards though. havent taken it out that far.
