    Marlin 795 shots @ 200 yards!

Today I updated my Marlin 795 with a Simmons 22 mag 4x32 scope and couldn't be happier. Mind you, although new to me, this scope is from my father inlaw who had it sitting on a shelf in his garage for the past 10 if not 15 years.

I went out to USI's multi-purpose range this afternoon, threw the scope on and with in 10 shots was sighted in at 50 yards - then walked out to 100 yards and blazed through a few mags until there was one tattered hole in the bull's eye. I was shooting bulk box remington thunderbolts....not one hick up...good stuff IMO.

Although there was a bit of a breeze blowing from right to left, I got the gumption to stretch the legs a bit further and took shots at 200 yards. Without adjusting my scope elevation, I held over and used the "thick" part of the bottom of the vertical cross hair and put a shot on the paper....I checked for a better look with my spotting scope and to my surprise, there was a hole in the paper!

I took a few more shots, 2 groups of 3, by covering the targets with the top of the bottom cross hair and pulled off a couple of nice groups! It was the end of the day and I was so impressed that I stopped shooting....just sat there basking in the glory Then went out and took pics, wrapped up all my gear and couldn't wait to share my experience on CG.

    Here's the pix:

    Cheers !!!

I have mine sighted at 50 yards and it drops way low at 150 yards.

          right on guys ^^^ !!

795 microgroovin' FTW...mos definately looking forward to shooting 200 yds more often...and further if/when I can find a spot.

jr - try zero @ 100. googlefu search found that with a 100 yard zero, it will "shoot 2" high at 25 yds, 3" high at 50 yds, 2.5" high at 75yds, 0 at 100 yds, -5" at 125 yds, -12 at 150 yards, -20 at 175 yds and -33 at 200 yds. " I need to test this....sounds legit, but want to verify. YMMV.

Is that a mess kit on your bench?

I have the same scope on my Marlin XT-22. I just recently picked it up and zeroed at 17 yards (indoor range). I know, but I haven't really taken it to an outdoor range.

This is inspiring so I will take it out next time to shoot at 100 yards.

                  Get some fresh air

                  and stretch those legs!

Trigger - shoot your marlin at distance with confidence. I am very impressed with the performance of my budget 795, especially with bulk rounds.

Thanks for the advice. I will try sighting in at 100 yards instead of 50.

                      I have my Model 60 & XT22 zeroed @ 100. Was hitting out to 300yds @ Angeles the other day. Hit steel maybe 50% @ 200 and 25% @ 300. Of course I was shooting next to a friend hitting 600 w/ his .308.

                      Love these 22 rifles.

What dimensions are your steel targets at 300 yds?

Honestly I dont know. Maybe someone who shoots at angeles more often can say. Theyre not HUGE, but are larger then an 8" plate.

OP, I will try it out at 100 or maybe even 200 yards next time I go to an outdoor range. I am sure that my XT will do well. Just need to make the time to go.

I think Angeles has 12" plates.
