I bought two Marlin 795's, my 11 year old son and 13 year old daughter love to shoot them. Heck I have a lot of fun shooting them. We've put a lot of rounds through both (over 500 each) with no issues.
For a basic .22 rifle, and a great price, I would go with the Marlin. I like the Ruger, but it's at least $100 more expensive.
Good luck, a lot of great input here, and I don't think you can go wrong with the suggestions.

My First choice will always be a 10/22 - you can find a cheap pink stock on ebay for her. If she decides she doesnt like to shoot it, mod time for you!

            Budget - Marlin 60

You want her HOOKED on shooting? basic Henry lever action or ...M&P15-22 if you want to intro her to AR platform

            Just my worthless $.02

If youre in Norcal bay area let me know and she can try them all. A good excuse for me to bring out some .22's to the range is always welcomed

It's interesting to really look at .22's. The current Marlin 60 is about 60% less than a Ruger 10/22 ($159.00 vs. $259.00.) The Marlin 60 is typically more accurate and is finished at least as nice.

The S&W M&P 15-22 is probably actually cheaper (or as cheap) to manufacture as either the Marlin or Ruger, yet those things go for what, $425-450.00? It's tough for me to justify paying that much more for what amounts to a tacticool look and little else.

Which .22 should I buy? Help please!

I like the 64 , but I would be more inclined to buy the Marlin 60. I prefer the slimmer forearm, without the magazine sticking out and it is even slimmer than the 10 22.

IMOP , The Model 60 is more accurate out of the box than the 10 22. Cliff

My girlfriend loves her 795, I also bought her the boyd stock of her choice to let her make it feel more hers. Imho the loading of a tube mag such as on the Marlin 60 can get old to some(buy for some reason out just feels right on a lever). Actually I enjoyed shooting her 795 so much I bought one for myself.

I would get her the Model 60 Marlin. I really like a tube feed. I only have the older Marlin 60s that have the 18 round tubes though. I prefer the Older 60s over the new ones also..

I can likely throw 18 rounds down my tube about as quick as you can load two 10 round detachables.. Using a speedloader tube, I know I can beat by a significant amount of time....

It is actually easier for most Woman to load a tube fed. And Women you have to remember, seems to have a little more patience than some of us men

Both the Savage Arms 64 tactical .22LR & the Marlin 795 are both on sale for the same price: $160 @ Big 5.

which rifle do you think is the better choice and why?

                        Thank you for your thoughts.
Sounds like a similar situation to my wife; she has shot with me and enjoyed it, but isn't super into it yet.

Having said that, my 795 was the one she enjoyed the most. I kept loading mags and she kept making tin cans dance while squealing with delight.

I don't see how you could possibly go wrong with a 795.

$100 less and usually more accurate out of the box than the 10/22.

I've never shot a Savage but I hear good things.

Model 60, she isn't going to give a damn about reloading speed as long as she hits everything she aims at. A lot more accuracy out of the box.

                            Time is time.

Either spend your time reloading Ruger mags and then popping them on and off or spend your time reloading the Marlin 60.

In competition on tube-fed guns I use a Spee-D-Loader. Works pretty well:

Those two models are comprable in quality
wont go wrong with either and that's smart
about going this route-she will be real happy with either of these guns
