Performance upgrades for a 10/22

Can you provide data as to why? Everything I've read about .22lr barrels indicates that velocity gains beyond a 16" barrel are minimal, or in some cases, velocity is lost due to the longer barrel.

IMO there's 2 mods that should be done on every 10/22.

1. Extended Mag Release. Although Ruger might be adding these on already as my 10/22 takedown has it already.

2. Auto Bolt Release Mod.

Once you do them, shoot the heck out of it stock then figure out what you want to add onto it then.

Thanks. I jailed a new Synthetic Stock 18" 10/22 today, and plan to just shoot a few bricks through it. Will look into the two mods you noted. I know I'll want a scope at some point, too.

Get a VQ hammer kit if you want a lighter than stock trigger pull. 40 bucks vs 200 for a new trigger group. If you're not looking for a 2 lb trigger the hammer kit should work nicely.

I'm a "Buy Once Cry Once" type person but thanks for the suggestions for parts. Basically I am not looking for top of the line but midrange. Something to be on par or better than the Magnum Research mlr22at.

I have a MLR22AT, and I upgraded the trigger to Kidd's two stage half pound trigger. The only thing bad about the MR rifle is the trigger, and with the upgrade, the rifle is capable of matching the performance of the best of the best 10 22s.

I just saw that Kidd was having some sales so I got their 18" black lightweight barrel and single stage trigger unit.

Nice! I'm running the KIDD 16.5" barrel with their 3# single stage trigger. And love it. Let's see some pics and range report when you get it together.

This is the route I took (except I got a two stage trigger). With a good scope, it's stupid accurate - boring almost! I find myself shooting my Browning T-Bolt with open sights or my Single Six just to challenge myself more.

Kidd and Volquartsen barrels are the gold standard for barrels, but with match ammo that it likes an 18-20" Green Mountain will out shoot all but the very-very best shooters. You're going to have to shoot match ammo to reach the full potential of a match barrel and every individual barrel has its own preference.

If you're going to get serious then the best investment that you can make is a $300 Kidd 2-stage trigger. A 2-stage trigger will allow you to safely have a lighter trigger pull than you can safely use with a single stage trigger.

With fluted barrel, I feel that the rifle is perfectly balanced and so did everyone else that handled it. It is a bit on a heavy side though

Tactical solutions barrel....super lightweight and accurate.

This... I replaced my stock 10/22 barrel with a TacSol and love it. Light and accurate. I liked it so much that I bought the complete X-Ring rifle they make.

Just shoot it as is.. Tech Sights are awesome by the way.

Leave it as is. Get a hogue overmolded stock and tech sights, which are beyond awesome.
