    BX-25 function in 10/22?

Does anyone out there have great success with the BX-25 mags in their 10/22? Mine has a problem about every two or three rounds. It chambers a round, hammer strikes pin but round doesn't fire. I have to recharge manually, then the same round that didn't fire does fire.

If this problem sounds familiar to anyone else have you been able to resolve it? I have a stock Ruger 10/22 receiver all the rest of it is Volquartsen parts, Firing group, bolt action and carbon fiber barrel.

Any experience or advice is helpful, thanks

I presume this/these magazines are kept out of California?

First thought ammo - are you using quality 22lr ammo or bulk?

If the standard magazines run fine with the ammo, how is the spring tension in the BX25 magazine? I'm thinking that if it is weak the round will not be fully pushed up for chambering and loses energy on the way.

You may try Rimfirecentral, where more people that live in states without magazine restrictions could chime in. might search under light strikes.

I've never had even a hiccup with mine shooting Federal bulk.

I wonder if the feed lips are out of spec or there's a burr on them.

        1. Does it work OK with Ruger 10 round mags? (or other mag brands?)
        2. Does the barrel have a "match" chamber?
        3. What ammo are you using?
        4. Are you using the original Ruger hammer spring?

          BX-25 are great mags period.

Best of parts and still having FTF and FTE, do what I had to do.

Scott bite the inside of the receiver. Take rifle a part and get one of those green scotchbrite pads from under the kitchen sink, that your wife uses for her teflon pans.

Just rub the three side for about five minutes each side and clean out the residue. Oil and pack the gun for the range, bring extra ammo cause yo will burn thru some now.

              maybe/maybe not.

you can use BX-25 parts to legally rebuild your existing large-cap 10/22 mags

I have seen this problem in someone else's bx -50 guess there are just some duds out there because the mechanism are so simple, don't know how some work flawlessly while some have this problem. must be the leaf spring

As stated above, does this happen with std 10 round mags with same ammo?
If the round is being chambered, then the only thing that could be happening is the BX25 is dragging on the bolt causing the round not to seat against the
barrel face. If you have a FTF, wait 20 sec to make sure there is not a hang fire, wear safety glasses and inspect.
Since I live in Kali, no direct experience with BX-25. But, from all that I have read, they are the best choice for hi- cap mags with excellet results.

There have been many documented problems with the BX-25's. Rim Fire Central has extensive information on failures and fixes. I dis-assembled mine and waxed the rails plus polished the feed ramp and the inside of the feed lips, removing any casting lines. No problems. It has been documented that longer nosed bullets tend to not feed well in this mag.

i have similar problems with my 10 round ruger mags when I use a hotlips loader. The loader works fairly well on straight mags like the butler creeks, but on ruger rotary mags, it tends to dent/bend the cases

I bought one to replace my 15 plus year old magazine that is barely hanging on. Shameless plug for electrical tape.

People do rebuild damaged magazines. I polished the feed lips and it fed fine.

These are legal rebuilds we are talking about here. I don't know if the barrel is considered match grade or not? It is a carbon fiber volquartsen 22lr 16". I have tried a lot of different kinds of ammo through them, from cheap bulk to cci stingers, from hollow point to full nose jacket to lead. Everything I have tried through the stock 10 round mags run great.

check the feed ramp on the forward part of the little cast lip part. I had one that was a little rough and polished it up with the dremel, happy mag now. Also had to file down a casting line on the right inside, only by a few thousands.
