    SIG Mosquito Opinions needed.....

I'm considering it and need opinions from owners and past owners. I prefer the SIG platform but reviews are mixed. Love it or hate it. Good reviews seem to come from guys who understand this piece and bad reviews seem to come from guys who do not.

So, I like to know what your recommendation would be. Reasons why I should and reasons why I shouldn't. Any tips on the piece would also be appreciated.

    Thanks Calgunners!

unless you like playing with springs, save yourself the time and frustration imo. ruger SR22 is far more reliable and the only downside to them is waiting to find one to come available - oh, and ammo, you will use a lot more ammo with the ruger.

There are literally dozens of threads on this subject here on CGN alone.
Try throwing this in google: site:calguns.net sig mosquito

      Heres one for example:

      Heres another:

You can see my opinion on them there. And yes I do have first hand experience with them while I do not own one. I have used my friends on many outings and taken it apart. Despite what people say about the 2 recoil springs fixing issues they are still a POS using POS design and POS materials. And even the fans of them have agreed with me when I say that they have the worst trigger I have ever felt.

The Sig is fine. I have had mine for quite some time. Was tight in the beginning. Shoots anything now. Im sure the SR22 (P22) is fine too, but it also has break in issues. Get the gun you like best and shoot the hell out of it. You will be fine.

You always see a lot of Mosquitos in the for sale section.

For some reason people keep their Rugers.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
          (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Lots of issues with the early Mosquitos, I was working at a range when they first came out, and saw lots of complaints... I haven't seen the same issues with newer ones.
I bought one for my wife in 2008-ish and have never had any issues with it. It's pretty fun to plink with, even though it has a PINK frame

So, it appears SIG has worked out some kinks from the earlier versions but at the same time still recommends certain things be done because it was not designed as an all around 22.

These kinks in the ealier versions would explain some of the negative feedback. Can anyone else chime in on their recelntly purchase Mosquito? Not a purchase of a used one but rather a first time owner with a later born date? Maybe we can see if there is some consistancy with the later versions.

I gave mine away, very nice looking but it chopped more ammo than it fired. Used what most prefered the CCI and it was a paper weight to me.

I don't own one but shot one that my friend owned. Very problematic with his. It kept jamming alot no matter what ammo we used. He wound up selling it.

Ruger SR22 is not on the Roster anymore so it might be harder to find/get.

Take a look at the Ruger 22/45, S&W MP22 or the GSG 1911. I have all three and all of them have been very good. Eat's whatever ammo and FTE/FTF are very seldom.

Was looking at the Sig when it first came out, and after reading test reviews, went with the Walther instead. It is a good shooter, has never failed to function over several thousand rounds. I put a Target kit on it, and like it even more. I just bought an M&P 22, and really like it too. If you want something closer to a full size pistol, the M&P 22 is a great choice.

It is my favorite gun to shoot. I little picky on ammo, but not as bad as some people claim. I also looked at the Walter and Ruger but they were too small for my hand.

I bought mine this last September. I was looking for a 22 so I could shoot for cheap. I had decided on a Ruger but they are no longer CA compliant due to a change in a part and are off the list. Had I thought of used I would have gone that route and not looked further. The reason fI wanted the Ruger is it eats anything you through at it. Magazines are cheap too. I sent Ruger an e mail about this and a rep called me with in 20 minutes to apologize about not being available but it is a CA thing. She said they weren't sure what they were going to do or when. A big Plus in my book for Ruger's customer service.

I looked at the M&P and it wasn't for me. Can't say why, it just wasn't it.

Looked at the Walthers and found it had reported issues as the Sig but the Sig had no issues with CCI.

I liked the fact that the Sig is 90% of the P series so it feels like a full sized gun, unlike the Walthers and the Ruger. It has a bit of kick for a 22 which I like since the idea is for practice and keeps me to stay on target - for a 22. I'm thinking it has to do with a nearly full sized slide in action.

Overall I'm glad I got it. I'm glad I didn't get the smaller Ruger or Walthers. One thing to add is there is one off brand metal magazines being offered now. Still pricey if you ask me but $55 for 2 is way better than $45 for 1. Once I get some decent rounds through it (pass the 500 mark) I'll consider a feed ramp job. Right now I'm about 200 and I can still see changes in it's behavior between each shoots. Don't forget to follow the lube instructions as provided.
                        Hope this helps

BTW it has a crappy trigger

Search........sig fanbois will always say their skeeter shoots fine without malfunctions..but yet if u count all the negative reviews and posts of the skeeter it outnumbers the positives....maybe thats why the mfg had to suck it up and fix it...even though some still continues to have issues after the fix....and then it gets put up for sale in the classifieds

another recommendation for the mosquito here!

we own 2 and I wouldn't mind another, it's a fun gun for us to shoot. mine has always shot fine with federal, it gets dry and dirty while shooting so you just need to keep it lubricated (there is a spot on the slide they want you to lube also). follow instructions - good to go.
