    22lr rifle

CZ 455 Varmint will give you a chance of 3 caliber rifle. First 22 lr, need buy a 22 WRM, Then 17HMR when you get some more cash in later day.

Just to echo what's been said, I would go with a CZ.

      I have several 452's, 22LR, 22WMR, 17HMR, 17HM2...
The trigger spring is $2 and takes 30 minutes the first time and 15 minutes the following times. Great rifles if you don't want to mess with them too much. They are good out of the box.

some people at RFC were getting .5-1.5 inch groups at 50 yards. depends on the ammo

CZ's are the best under $500 class out of the box. Silky smooth, top notch accuracy.

If you need better than Anschutz would be the next level.

do people actually get better accuracy out of their varmint models? (bull barrel vs normal)

or is it just for greater stability for bench?

I wanted a varmint model for more weight -- with scope my CZ 452 Varmint is about eight pounds. Feels more like a "real" rifle than my LTR.

Heavy barrel probably doesn't give you more theoretical accuracy unless you shoot so much and so quickly that thermal stability becomes a factor. Otherwise, while barrel harmonics *might* be better with a heavy barrel, they also might not make any real difference.

I would expect that a CZ 452 American, cold-bore, would be just as accurate as my 452 Varmint. Haven't tested it. Realistically differences in ammo, and my own hold (since I won't be sledding it ever) will be MUCH more significant. Not worth worrying about.

I ended up getting a Savage Mk II FV (same barrel as the BV, but with a plastic stock) and plan on upgrading the stock to a Rhineland Leopard. I decided on the Savage because it was $200 cheaper and the LGS had it in stock. If the CZ455 Varmint were in stock, I would have bought it. They are a beautifully crafted piece, definitely worth the extra money. But I have no regrets on buying the Savage. I've only put about 200 rounds of Winchester bulk down the barrel, but so far I've been very happy with it.

As far as .22lr vs .17hmr goes, I've not found either to be stocked on a regular basis. I've probably spent more money on gas than bullets to get ammo, but so far I've found enough to keep me busy for a while. I'm paying about $.08/round not counting tax.

When you get the Rhineland Leopard stock, can you update with info about it? I'm planning on buying one but I'd like to see how others feel about it first.
