I need another .22 rimfire rifle like a hole in the head, but the new Ruger looks like it could be a lot of fun. I think I'll wait a while and see if any show up on the used market although MSRP of $329 is not too bad. I wonder what the street price is?

Mine was $259 when they went on sale at Turners. Think their normal price is $279.

I have the standard 22" model with a scope on it and it fits comfortably in a Plano single scoped rifle "hard" case for transporting. I got it from Cabelas for less than $20 with free shipping.

The edges are sturdy enough for me to trust the rifle and scope in it, but the sides are on the thin side, but it's decent for transporting. The case is kinda on the long side and it will barely get into the trunk of a 4 door Honda Accord. So if you drive anything smaller than a full size sedan, I'd skip it.

Just a word of advice for the would-be Ruger American Rimfire owner: the black rotary mags will fit while the clear plastic ones are somewhat fatter. I know because I have half a dozen clear plastic mags that fit just fine in my 10/22, but which are too wide to fit (comfortably) in the mag well of the American Rimfire. I will be ordering/buying only the black ones from now on.

I have not shot mine yet; I scoped it with Weaver #12 bases, Leupold medium rings, and a Simmons 4-12x50 I had lying around gathering dust. Will see how well it shoots with this scope combo before I spring for another scope.
