Ruger America Rimfire range report.

All in all, not bad. I'm sure things will smooth out and the groups tighten up. Try some different ammo next time. Could be that your rifle may prefer another brand better. I know my BuckMark pistol loves the Federal bulk!
Thanks for the range report! I've been in the market for a .22lr, to get my daughter started with. I've looked at so many, and after I looked at and fondled a Ruger American at Scheel's last week, I am sold. I just need to decide if I should get the 18" or 22" barrel. Leaning towards the compact with the 18" barrel.
As for the bolt.....The floor model at Scheels was smooooth! Probably due to everyone that handels it is working the action a few times. -
CCI do NOT shoot good in my CZ and my CZ shoots <dime size groups. I would try some wolf match. If you need a box and live near me they are yours. Ammo-sisters/ cerritos had bricks of wolf in stock on sunday.
Also I would take the chasis out of the stock and re-seat it with light torque. Check the crown while you are at it with a mag glass. One last thing would be slide a dollar down the underside of the barrel and see if its hitting the stock.
Maybe stay at 50 till you break in the barrel and get used to the gun.Last edited by problemchild; 09-23-2013, 7:48 PM.Comment

When shooting out to 100 yds, try some subsonic ammo like Aguila. Minimags leave the barrel around 1230 FPS. When the bullet slows down under the speed of sound (1126 FPS), the resulting sonic boom can alter the bullet's trajectory inconsistently. This is a common problem when shooting 22LR out to 100yds. Since you are shooting a bolt gun, the subsonic rounds won't give you cycling issues. have fun.Comment

I haven't seen any wood stocks on any other caliber in the American line.......am I missing something? Sounds like folks on a couple different forums are waiting for them?Comment

Real nice shootin' for a rim fire, especially if it was stock. I'd like to see match ammo through that gun.Benefactor Life Member NRA, Life Member CRPA, CGN Contributor, US Army Veteran, Black Ribbon in Memoriam for the deceased 2nd Amendment

Thanks for the review!
What I would like to see is a accuracy comparison between the Ruger American .22 lr and a stock Ruger 10/22, both scoped, at 50 and 100 yards. Test a variety of common loads.
That would be interesting!Comment

Yes it would. We all suspect the bolt-action gun would be more accurate, but how much more? I add that match ammo should be used in addition to the usual suspects to eliminate load variations as much as possible.Benefactor Life Member NRA, Life Member CRPA, CGN Contributor, US Army Veteran, Black Ribbon in Memoriam for the deceased 2nd Amendment
