Curious about .17HMR

Yeah I'm not taking a 17HMR coyote hunting. It would be squirrels and stuff like that.Comment

The HMR really destroys squirrels, much more deadly than the .22LR. If you want small center fire, look at the .17 Hornet. The Hornet turns squirrels inside out. It is amazing and can be reloaded. Ammo is more expensive than the HMR and probably harder to find.Comment

I've had a Savage 93r in 17 HMR for about 3 yrs now. Ammo prices and availability are reasonable even in this market. 23--26 cents a round is about the norm. I've let my wife and other first time shooters plink around with my rifle and even some long time shooters blast away with it and they all love it. Even with my cheapo bushnell's 3x9 I was able to get 2-3in groups at 200 m. When dialed to 100 you can blast quarters all day long off the bipod. Good gun great little performing round. However I have yet to take it out on any varmint yet......yet he he he.
I"m just a PA native trying to understand CA laws

I call the 17HMR the "fun Gun". I like to go to Los Altos Rod and Gun and kill
tin cans. They have a 100yrd tin can range. Below is a pic of tin can full of water. It is amazing what a little 17 Gr. bullet can do.

Great round. I took a yote at about 70 yards and it dropped dead 5 feet later. Not what I would prefer for coyote but works in a pinch (I was out popping squirrels)
As others have mentioned higher winds can really push you off course with such a light bullet."I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas JeffersonComment

be careful on the 17 WSM the rifle is at a good price, however the ammo is very expensive at this time and not easy to obtain. Hoarders and scalpers on the gun sites want a fortune for when shipping is involved.keep their heads down til help arrives
