Scope suggestions $150-$225 range

I am hoping that you gentlemen can offer some advise. Currently I have a S&W M&P 15-22.

Often a friend and I will sit there and hit a target 24"X24" around 125 yrds. On a friends property.

Currently I am trying to purchase a good scope and in my mind I am thinking it would be reasonable to buy one between $150-$250 dollars.

Do you have any advise or suggestions? Or should I allocate more resources towards a better scope?
My goal is carefully trying to move and test the rifle up to around 200-300 yrds and see what happens. To learn the sweet spot and understand which distances I can hit accurately, learning more about wind and calling shots.

This way I can translate it towards a much farther distance, with a different rifle of course.

This is a quality rimfire scope, nikon also makes a similar scope in the same price range.

Suggestion #2 if you can buy a Luepold scope in a pawn shop you can get more scope for your money and still be safe because of Luepold's no BS guarantee.

Shooting 2-300 yards you really need more power, but your price range limits you. You can buy scopes for cheep at higher power, but often the optics will let you down at that long a range.

at 200-300 yards you better use a different caliber. you'd be lucky to even hit a 24x24 target consecutively

I have that Weaver (RV9) scope and it's a very good scope. Or for a few dollars more you could go with a Weaver V16. My only concern is that a scope might not have enough adjustment to compensate for the bullet drop at 300yds (10-15 feet).

200 yds is generally the max semi accurate distance. You can push out to 250, but 22 really starts to fall apart at those distances.

Leupold makes a real nice 2-7X rimfire scope in that price range---but you might want something more powerful for real long range shooting with a 22...

+1 for the Nikon, I got one recently and just tried it out on Saturday with my new XT-22.

So far I'm pretty impressed, was getting hits on my 8" steel @ somewhere in the neighborhood of 180-200 yards. Holding waaay up and waaaaay over.
I think I giggled like a school girl when I heard it go ping.

I zeroed it @ 50, and when I put the 75 yard circle of the BDC reticle on the 4" steel I set up @ 75 yards, it went "PING!" on the first shot.

I know people say that the BDC is calculated to one specific ammo and the accuracy of it will change from brand to brand, so I'm curious to see how much of an effect it actually has. So far all I've shot through it is CCI Blazer and it was pretty dialed in considering that the wind was blowing pretty good.

I have the Nikon 3-9x40mm Prostaff Rimfire that is bright and clear, but since you're trying to shoot a challenging distance, I would recommend the Mueller APV AO 4.5-14x40mm.

Both sell for $130, under your price range.

BTW - Optics Planet's direct direct $170 price on the Mueller APV isn't even remotely competitive...which seems ironic since they are the seller @ Amazon for $130. - both screen grabs taken today.

Yeah, you can get a "special deal" at OP since they have it marked up $40 over the street price, but who wants to work that hard when you don't have to...

you are comparing prices on 2 different scopes; the APT (I linked in my previous post) and the APV. my understanding is that the APT is basically an updated APV with target turrets. I have 2 of the APTs and highly recommend them for a rimfire rifle.
