Its birdshot, so it wouldn't be fatal. Without the glasses you would go blind. with them, your fine.

Same could be said of a firearm failure, probably.

Price is a bit higher than the standard glass or plastic lens's but worth it
I'm nearsighted and I prefer to use glasses. I use prescription safety glasses. They can get pricey depending on the style you want. Where I work they subsidize the price of these. You can get the cheapo looking one with ugly side shields for free or if you want to be a little stylish you can add to the voucher with your own money.

I also wear Willy X sunglass frames with RX lenses.
Full eye coverage, nothing is going around.
My last pair ran me $360 and worth it

        I would love Lasik

I use the ESS ICE with the prescription insert. Ran me a little under $200.

I always wore "over the glasses" safety glasses, then I decided "This is overkill" so I just wore regular glasses. Then while shooting a 9mm pistol, a case ejected, hit the lane-divider, bounced down through the space between my glasses and my face, then SAT trapped between the bottom of my glasses and my cheek. I was still holding the loaded gun, so I had to put that down then move my glasses. It left a burn on my face that took 2 weeks to heal and fade!

So, a baseball hat would help if you insist on only wearing glasses, but I suggest full eye protection.

I bought a pair of ESS Supressor eye pro WITH prescription lens insert. They are good, but the prescription lens insert makes them front heavy so they always want to slide off my face (they do come with a strap that you can use though).

I spent a bunch of money on that.

Now, if you shoot rifles, well, I really find it hard to see out the top of my normal eye glasses with a rifle/shotgun shouldered, and the glasses tend to shift around a lot. I would consider contacts for rifle shooting, but I hate contacts.

If I were to do it again ... I would buy a pair of large wrap around sun glasses with polycarbonate lenses in your prescription. I have a pair of Oakley sunglasses with my prescription. They wrap (they don't look good actually, because the sides are so curved that they look weird, but I don't care, they are awesome for driving) so they protect your eyes well, and they fit close.

I have a pair of prescription "sport goggles" like what you'd wear to play raquet sports, They look dorky as hell, but I use them for woodworking and whenever I need safety glasses at home. They have an elastic strap so they stay fixed on my head and they are tough. ... I got them for like $6 !!! I used that "Firmoo" company, who kept offering free glasses on facebook, so I gave in and sent them $6 for shipping and I actually got these dorky but incredibly useful goggles!

BUT in a nutshell, those old "over the glasses" "blue-blocker" sunglass things I permanently borrowed from my dad work surprisingly well over normal glasses, though if you wear ear-muff style ear-pro, having the double glasses-arms is uncomfortable after a while.

I have basically the same, the "Supressors" which are the ICE with the bent in arms to fit under ear muffs better. I find the lens inserts work, but make the glasses front heavy, they always want to pull off my face. But I don't have a very prominent nose-bridge, which might help. They come with a strap, but the way the strap hooks to the arms squishes against my ears with muffs on.

See my long winded post above!
