If you don't mind paying a little extra used SR22s are out there, that is your best option. Great guns, love mine.

Maybe Ruger will. They have the money to make the state 'prove' its case. Just because the idea got a patent doesn't mean its been reduced to practice or a patent owner has the ability to manufacture. Are there licenses available?

Unless the microstamping BS gets overturned in court, eventually there will be no handguns available for sale in California once all the current ones have fallen off the roster.

There have been some reported problems with the SR22, but the one that mine gun has doesn't effect its functionality...or at least it hasn't yet. The slide stop has rubbed through the bluing on the rail around the notch in the slide. This is a well documented problem and Ruger has been doing warranty work to fix those effected. My guess is they fixed the source of the problem and didn't notify the state of the design change. I have no proof of that, but it was stated somewhere that they changed something in the slide.

Mine had a defective mag disconnect right out of the box. Sent it to Ruger. They fixed it and had it back to me in a week. Shipping both ways paid by them. One easy phone call to them was all it took.......

Yeah I have read about the design change to the slide being the reason for loss of cert. I read up on micro stamping, the claim is that it will only cost $8.50 per firearm on the high end. I call BS on that! I'm sure it will cost much more than that per gun. That and it won't work to catch criminals because they tend to have illegal guns to begin with. With the anti-gun climate in our country right now I'm going to scrape together all the money I can and buy as many semi auto firearms and ammo i can.

I heard that the hammer has a tendency to pinch your hand during each cycle. I didn't notice it when i tried it. But after a few hundred rounds, i could see this being an issue. Like you, i decided to finally get the sr22; only to find out it fell off the roster. This was mid/late July and i literally missed it by a week. Hard to justify $75 sse for a $300 gun. Ended up going with the mp22 for a little more, which IMHO, is a better gun. I was meant to have gun. Got it last week. Enjoyed shooting it so much, i went to the range Friday and Sunday. Good luck with the sr22, which is still a great shooter.

The most reliable .22LR pistols are fixed barrels, like the Ruger Mark III and 22/45. Only the bolt moves unlike the SR22 which acts like a center fire pistol. I have over 40,000 rounds thru my 22/45 without a single burp. 6.5" slab side no longer made.

Not terribly familiar with the SR22?
I assure you, the SR22 is securely fixed to the frame

Yea, I meant where the slide doesn't cycle.

Doubtful Ruger will sue CA over the List as their official position in response to being hit up for more money to be retested was, "Ruger will continue to make and market the SR22 in it's current form, just not in CA any longer".

As to the OP's question, my wife's SR22 had the take down lever break (the rather sharp inside of the aluminum slide hits the plastic lever, with kind of predictable results). I think they now make the lever out of a tougher polymer. Ruger fixed her pistol but upon return there was another issue. Ruger replaced the pistol, paid shipping both ways (both times) and sent me a check to cover my second DROS. They also gave me an extra recoil spring and magazine for my trouble.

The SR22 doesn't appear to be picky about ammo and is MUCH more accurate then my buddies Walther P22. Beyond the accuracy issue I would recommend staying away from the Walther due to the cast zinc slide and the factory specification to only use Mini-Mag ammo.

The one thing I do not like about my SR22 is the trigger. Though, I'm sure many of you will disagree. The initial pull in single action is fine, but I am not fond of the reset at all, and neither is about anyone who I have had shoot it. They should have made it engage at about half the distance that it does. Though, I suppose I'm spoiled by the really, really good trigger on my Buckmark.

Thanks guys, all very good info. I'm going to hold off on my purchase of a .22lr handgun. I've shot both mark3 and 22/45 s, actually a .22 ruger alot like those was the 1st fire arm I ever shot when I was 7. I held it too close to my face and the hammer struck me in my nose. An important lesson learned. I'm looking for something more compact though, hence the sr22.

Unless you want to sse the sr22, the other two polymer compacts is the p22 and mp22. I held a p22 and that thing is tiny. MP will have you smiling at the range.
