My daughters first time at the range :)

Took my 17 year old daughter to the range yesterday... She has always been scared of guns (even though there were always guns in the house from the time she was born).

So (much to my surprise) she told me out of the blue that she wanted to go to the range with her Brother and me yesterday.

She was nervous when we first got there, but I loaded the 22A and told her that when/if she was ready, she could shoot.

Overcoming her fear, she pick up the gun and sent 10 rounds down range. The smile one her face fter that was priceless .
    a
She liked it so much she went through 200 rounds with the 22 and then shot the 9mm. Now she wants to know when we are going back

Needless to say, I am a proud Daddy.....

That's great. Glad you got to take some of the family. IBTTIWWP. In before this thread is worthless without pics.

Congrats! Next step - her own gun.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

I was sitting at home and my daughter was visiting. Asked her what she wanted to do. Gave her a few choices, movie, park, gun range. She said lets go to the range. After I picked myself up off the floor I was loading guns and ammo in the truck as fast as I could. She has always been against guns. She is 25 and lives in Hollywood so you can see the lib enviroment. Got to the range and set her up with the MP9MM. I got the regular bulls eye targets not to freak her out with human outline. Showed her gun safety and how to hold, stand and site. First 2 rounds in the red, next 5 just outside the red. This was at 30ft. Let her shoot the 38 LCR but she did not like the kick. Pulled out the AR15 and let her shoot that. Again in the black at 50 yards but she did not like shooting the rifle. She went back to the 9MM for about 100 rounds. I guess it's true that women are natural born shooters.

Good to hear, I got my wife to go to the range a few times with me, she didn't like my 22a so much as she said it didn't feel like a real gun, but had a blast with my Colt uramex 22.

I usually love going to Angeles out door shooting range, but last time I went some power hungry range officer was being very rude. Never really had a problem before as I am as safe as I could be especially with a new shooter, but this time around my wife shot a Taurus pt 99, and she placed it down, pointed at a safe direction, with the gun still loaded. I took the weapon dropped the mag and cleared the gun, then place it back on the counter.

The range officer comes up to us while my wife is shooting and demands that I have my action locked back, I usually have the action locked back but because my wife only shot five out of the ten rounds through the gun, I cleared the gun and didn't lock it back. There is no rule for having your action locked back while the range is hot. Out of the 25 people I saw shooting, only one or two people had their actions locked back while range was hot.

But I didn't complain, I told my wife to stop shooting, she place the weapon on the counter (barrel pointed down range as always) and I took the weapon and locked the action back. He then says "you just pointed the gun at that girl," that girl being my wife. I was speechless as I did not, and I said no I didn't, and he kept saying I did. Then I said okay whatever, then he says "I just take safety very seriously" my reply..... "So do I"

While this was happening there was a female shooter about 15 years old, shaking a loaded 1911 with one in the chamber, she was saying this is heavy and started shaking it some more with the muzzle pointing everywhere.

I haven't gone back since, and I used to go every week. All the other guys at Angeles seem to be fine, but this "new worker" gave me problems for nothing, making up things like I pointed a gun at my wife. My wife would have flipped out if I did such a thing as she already is scared of guns to begin with. Wife was angry, I was angry, no salvaging that trip at the range.

That sucks..... Hope it didnt leave a bad taste in your wifes mouth....

I had a couple of smaller moments like that with my daughter, mainly due to rapid fire (the range I took her to is a slow fire range 1 shot every 4 seconds). Also had a DONT DO THAT moment when the 22 had a FTF (golden bullets) and my daughter started to looked DOWN the barrel to see what was going on. But after another talk about safety she caught on real quick....

BTW Guys- Sorry, but no pics. Didnt have time as I had a total of 4 teens with me and just me and my 20 year old son (who was totally engrossed in a black powder rifle that a guy was shooting) to watch over them... Next time though there will be pics. She wants to go to the indoor range so that she can kill some zombie targets (this range only uses the NRA competition targets)

All the girls in my family are better shooters than most of the guys. Never underestimate a woman with a gun in her hand.
