I shoot a Martin trad recurve and have a Bear compound that I kick around and let people use when they come over etc. Archery is fun, and you get extra hunting time too if that does anything for ya. I never really got into the fancy "arrow guns" with triggers and sights and whatnot.

Shoot a bowtech rock at 67 pounds. Enjoy it a lot. Especially the price. The free archery park by ocean beach has been packed every time I've gone.

        No training wheels here
        65# refllex/deflex
the skills required to shoot a traditional bow
is great training of the mind
not to mention the upper body strength,
have to work up to heavier poundage
        to keep from injuring oneself,
but wonderful to shoot an arrow
        quiet
        deadly
        ohhhh.....

Compounds do make it easy in many ways.

Pacifica has a nice range too. They put on a couple of good 3-d shoots every year too. It cracks me up how archery shooters are just like gun people with equipment and their way is the way.... that's what make both fun. The friendly compound/trad and pistol/rifle etc. ribbing that we get and give back. I love shooting matches behing trad guys because they shoot quickly. Nothing worse than getting stuck behind a group of compound guys with arrow flight calculators and marked yardage.....

I shoot both Olympic recurve and compound at balboa park, Morley field, and performance archery off Miramar road. I think I still have the shop record for 5 spot league BHFS with 300/49X's. I haven't shot for a few months because of a busy school and work schedule.

i've been bending bows since the late 70's...gave up on compounds long ago.

now longbows and recurves...even made a laminated longbow.

shot in NFAA nationals in 1985 and many local tournaments at balboa, morely, bear state and haybarn canyon and hunted all over California and Arizona with compound and recurve.

i still shoot but the fingers are getting hard to operate from arthritis.

                  archery, airguns and firearms...
