Archery shooters here??

After seeing the airguns thread on here it got me thinking of archery. Does anyone else here shoot? It's a great cross training tool to shooting in general, as it takes a lot of the same fundamentals to get good at it. It also has various disciplines within the sport such as indoor target, 3-d, bowhunting, etc. The people you meet at shoots and tournaments are generally pretty laid back and as far as being family or noob friendly, it's less "scary" to those who maybe haven't been exposed to the shooting sports before.
If you do shoot, how involved are you? what type of equipment are you using, shoots or tournaments attended etc...

Just started this year. I liked learning a new skill. Balboa Park has a nice walking range and I've done a few 3D tournaments.

I've shot at the balboa range before too. I need a heavier bow like around 35#

Years ago, I hunted red squirrels with a re-curve bow. I just recently got a crossbow.

I shoot longbows and occasionally a recurve. ive bebn shooting bows for over 50 years. I prefer the longbow for its simplicity. my current is a 75# made in the eighties by John Schulz it just out shoots for me at least most of my modern longbows. here in california with the sanctioning body for the shoots I was entering we have to use wood arrows in the longbow class. Recurves just seem to make it too easy to hit where i want to hit.

Yup. I picked up archery last year. I like that I can shoot in my back yard and there are a couple ranges in my area with 3d courses. It's a lot of fun and, like you said, many of the folks you meet on the range are laid back and friendly. It helps that you don't have to shout over gunfire and rear pro to have friendly conversations.

Ouch, how did you do that I shoot 73 in ground blinds and 63 from the stands.

^^^ picked up a new bow and jumped into a heavier weight than I was regularly shooting.
Basically put some wear on the rotator cuff causing some inflamation. Nothing a cortisone shot couldn't fix. Soooo....when you go heavier, work up to those 60 arrow or more sessions.

Been shooting archery 40 years now. I have recurves and compounds and love the 3D circuits. Every summer weekend there is one nearby to go shoot. My buddies and I switch over recurve or compound to what ever mood we are in for a particular 3D. Compound is #65 for 3D, #50 for indoor. Recurves range from #40-55 since I have several to choose from. Arrows are carbon for outdoors and aluminum indoors. The food is usually pretty good (and cheap) too at the clubs we visit, breakfast and/or lunch. Fun fun fun. In the fall, I usually take a deer with the 3D bow.

I picked up archery this year, as part of my shoulder therapy. ended up buying a 45% recurve. I've been meaning to check out the local archery range since rotating back to Fresno.
I would definitely consider my self a gunaphile but I almost enjoy archery more. I find the challenge to be a greater thrill than the smell of gun powder.

i have shot archery for quite sometime taking the year off as i work for a professional race team and travel alot. but i love shooting unmarked 3d bowhunter freestyle is very competitive and freestyle is all the bells and whistles. both me and my girlfriend compete i have won several local state and local tourney's archery is a very good community and once you get involved you will find it is very active you can compete in the bay area atleast about every weekend..

this was my bhfs setup for 2012 which i won my regional and local league which is very competive

Ever checked out the santa cruz Archers range?? Nice course in the redwoods, and we host two 3D shoots every year. Mt Madonna also has a very nice range with 42 targets, for the full NFAA field/hunter course. They also host a very large 3D shoot every year. Best showing I had at Mt Madonna was a 7th overall in freestyle class with 3 pros in the field. Those guys are in a whole 'nother realm as far as competitiveness....I'd like to check out the state 3D shoot up in Redding, but haven't made it yet. I shoot #50 freestyle indoor and outdoor, with a bit of recurve and longbow when I'm wanting to feel like a noob again.

Northern Illinois here. We shot a 3D this morning and had a great time.
