    Big 5 Eye Candy

Was able to hit 2 different stores this morning, 9:45 and 10:05 and got 2 and 3.

Seems like the .22LR is starting to flow a little now. 2nd store had about 17 bricks 15 or so of these. $10 ea.

Pomona then Upland, they didn't last. Call on their delivery days any Big 5 at 8:30, they will tell you the ammo they got in.

Yeah, when I picked up my 10/22 td last friday in Sunnyvale Big5, they have 3 boxes of Winchester 333 packs ($24) and one 500 pack of Remington (golden bullets maybe?) that someone picked up for $33 (ie double pre-panic prices).

So the high price is not unexpected (for one thing, it's Big5 which has always had higher ammo prices!) but the fact that it was there at noon that was shocking.

Even thought I was picking up a 10/22, I passed on the gougy prices to let someone else get it, since I still have about 8k of .22 sitting around.

I did buy some gougy .38 special though. ($24 for 50 rounds), but again, it's the availability that is more surprising!

And to anyone who didn't buy ammo just because it was there, thank you for not becoming part of the problem!
We'll get thru this even if only a small percentage of us do the right thing and not buy just because it was there.
Also, check with your shooting friends and see who has a glut and who has a shortage. Re-distributing is healthy and fun.

Some of us actually shot 2-3 times a month and have been unable to enjoy our hobbies. The fact I now have 2500 rounds of .22lr assures me I can go a couple times a month now for a few without despair.

I'm convinced it was the large manufacturers playing the games. I don't believe for 1 minute CCI is running 3 shifts pumping out .22, the shelves would be full after 6 months. You rarely see the stuff. This has been nothing but a political/corporate spin to screw shooters.

Big 5 had a lot of ammo yesterday delivered, I felt for the guy infront of me who paid $22 for (20) 30-30. I load plinkers for .22 each....That's just corporate robbery if you ask me. Create the shortage/demand and bingo, the bottom line smiles for the shareholders.

We ain't going to get through this, you see it buy it because soon the politics kicks in and we have a nickel on every round so we keep the engine of the Gov. moving at warp speed.

that high velocity .22lr @ 10 bucks a box aint too bad for current prices. I saw some bricks of 500 lead round nose going for 89.99

I hate the way things have become, I try not to shoot my larger rounds and stick with 22's but thats even getting harder. luckily I still have guns that can shoot 22 long, 22 short as well as 22 lr so I do find some stock of those other 22 rounds. most lever action 22lr's will shoot other .22's YOU MUST CHECK YOUR RIFLE BARREL (they will be marked, like Henry levers) some revolvers also can do this wonderful thing too
                    I mainly shoot .22lr, 9mm,45 acp, 357 & 38, 12G, 7.62x39, .308, .223/556, 7.62x54r, 300 win mag, 8x57

You'd be wrong about that. Manufacturers are pouring them out and people are buying it up. Ammo counter at my local Walmart opens at 7 AM. First guy got there at 5:30 this morning. I was there at 6 and was 7th in line. By 7 AM, the line was 20 deep.

525 packs of Federal are $21 at Wally's, which disproves your theory of corporations trying to "screw us". All their prices reflect their standard mark up. 440 rounds of .556 in ammo can were $175, though they only had two of these.

Even with a three box limit, by the time my turn came, I was limited to 225 packs of Remington golden bullets and I got the last three.

All in all, prices are coming down and ammo supplies are going up.

I don't know about that. My impression is that your average shooter, who goes and buys ammo with the intent of going shooting and consuming it, is being blocked out by campers who rush the door when the store opens, buy everything, and then try to turn around and gouge others for it.

At two different Big 5's, the managers told me there is a crowd of carpetbaggers waiting at the door on ammo delivery days. Actual shooters that come in randomly looking for ammo are patted on the head and sent on their way empty handed.

                          Welcome to capitalism.

Supply and demand rules economics: the lower the supply, the higher the price. That's called "the free market", which is what political conservatives are always demanding. (which is mainly good for people who OWN factories, not the ones who work in them).

And how do you know that people who are buying large quantities are reselling and gouging? Do you know any personally?

For me, I say that those who are motivated enough to get out of bed at 5 am to go buy something, deserve to buy it.

                            .
When I had no rimfire ammo for a shooting trip I bought some from folks right here on this forum. Definitely price gouged but there was none available through regular sources. I don't need a lesson on capitalism, nor do I dispute the legality or debate the morality of it. You can save that lecture for your kids. It is a simple fact that this has been occurring ever since last December.
