    .22lr Colibri?

I just found out about .22lr Colibri. Yes, been out of the circle for over 10yrs and just got back into it last year. So what is the story on this ammo? Any experience? I saw a YouTube video and it can be fired from revolvers such as the Ruger SP101 .22lr which i have. No powder means it will fire clean. Any disadvantages or negatives with this ammo firing out of a revolver? Sounds perfect for target shooting. Is $0.14/rd expensive for this type of ammo? Your help and knowledge is much appreciated!

What do you want to use it for? It has no powder, simply a primer charge. It's very quiet but has no power. It is at best, a close range rat round. I know it isn't supposed to be shot out a rifle, but I use it occasionally out of a bolt action old Wards rifle with no problems. It will shoot out of a revolver just fine. .14/round is pretty pricey in my opinion. HTH c good

Mainly target plinking at the range for my GF but sounds fun for me too. Is 7yrds too far for this ammo for target plinking? I figured $0.14/rd is panic prices only because The Armory is asking panic pricing for normal .22lr but had no clue what it costed before.

I appreciate your help and education!

$0.14 is way too high for that stuff.

I have shot a few hundred rounds out of my old bolt action I picked up and have no problems. Though I got one squib but I pulled the bolt out and saw daylight on the other end...good thing because I have about 5,000 rounds of it.

Works great in a cheap old revolver I have also. I did shoot a squirrel at about 10 yards with it and he staid around for a second shot before running away. If it is used on rats & such you better be pretty close.

I believe they are about 550 FPS and have the distinct Aguila smell when shot.

Very interesting. Sounds like it may even bounce off paper targets at 7yds and also sounds like it is basically shooting quiet blanks. I was going to pull the trigger on a brick of these but knowing that $0.14/rd is expensive, I will pass just as I do with the panic prices of normal .22lr. Thanks!

I have the Super Colibri and it's plenty capable of wacking a small rodent.
I've shot it in an old Marlin single shot and a Ruger Single Six.
It's a ton of fun but not at $.14. I bought mine very cheap several years ago for $5.00/ brick The price afforded me the opportunity to try it.

I always clean the guns really well after shooting it because the primers apparently can create some dirt.
Never had a problem out of the Marlin but the rules have a caution!

              500 fps

By way of comparison, an Airsoft can shoot a pellet at over 500 fps.

Granted, we're talking about a 20 grain bullet vs. an Airsoft pellet. But I think the comparison is useful to get an idea of how slow the .22lr Colibri is.

Please don't compare it to airsoft... Some idiot will think they can shoot at each other with it.

I have shot it out of pistols (manually cycled), revolvers and a bolt action rifle. From a rifle you just have to ensure that you see a hole in the target after you shoot that ammo to ensure it left the barrel. I have shot it out to 25 and 50yds at paper targets. Not very accurate beyond 15yds as the bullet drops pretty quickly with range. For 14 cents a round I would pass. I only pay 20 cents per round for Lapua Center-X match grade ammo and 10 cents a round for SK Std+ target ammo. Somebody is trying to gouge somebody at that price for Colibri.

Good point! I had a piece of hardboard house siding up as a back board at 25ft. The Super Colibri ruined it in a hurry!

Colibri is rated @ 375 FPS.
Super Colibri is rated @ 590 FPS.
Both are FAR more quiet than any standard 22lr ammo.
Either is just fine for executing paper targets, rodents or snakes @ 7 yards or less.
Neither is any good for accuracy beyond that.
                            Neither will "bounce off paper".
