If that was your budget, and you were going to use it solely for target practice, what would be on your list of rifles to look at?

Don't know if your budget includes a scope but assuming it does not, here is my suggestion. Cost $205+fees+tax
Then replace the plastic stock with one of these (they are the same ones that come on the higher end Savage MKII like the BTVS) Cost $99+shipping and they are a drop in fit: http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/produc...=9755&cat=1217
Then start saving your nickels for a quality scope. Please don't buy a nice, accurate rifle and then top it with a cheap scope, you will be sorry. -
Well, without a scope that one won't do much target work as it has no sights. I do agree with both choices though-the MK II and a boyd's stock will make for a very good budget target gun with good optics.Don't know if your budget includes a scope but assuming it does not, here is my suggestion. With the cost of the rifle, a good optic, and rings, you would probably be looking somewhere in the $400 to $425 range at least-with fees tax, etc.
Then save your nickels for the boyd's stock (and ammo too).Tire kickers gonna kick,
Nose pickers gonna pick

i just bought a marlin 925. basically a 795 with a bolt. original owner had a $100 bushnell scope on it. he took it out and ran one box of cci through it and didn't like it. $185 OTD. i'll be testing it out this saturdayI don't own any guns...they're dangerous.

Marlin 925R. or the basic model CZ rimfire rifle if you like wood stock.
Avoid the tube-fed guns if you spend any time shooting prone.
Here's what you can expect rapid firing the Marlin 925R at 200 yards with 9MPH wind. 5.5 inch target. For slow firing practice, I use a 3-inch target.

Save a bit longer for a CZ455 (~$390) and a good quality scope. If that's out of the question then I'd go for a Savage MKII BV and a good quality scope. If that's not doable then I'd look at a Savage MKII-FVXP and save up for a better scope.
Note by the time you add DROS and handling fees you'll probably be able to get a better total price from a local dealer but you might also try Davidsons."Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--

For good quality budget scope take a look at this.
I don't have any actual experience with it, but I've never seen a bad review. It's the darling of the crowd over on Rimfire Central.Comment

CZ... there are a couple within range of your $350.
You may be surprised how accurate they are. I was. Now I have 4.
By the way Brno#1 rifles turn up occasionally, they will be about the same price. Old school, beautifully made. They use the same magazine as the CZ's.
Here's mine, made in the 1940's. This one does 3/8" groups at 50'.

Keep in mind that most 22 matches are at 50yds because beyond that even a slight breeze can throw off the shot.
A Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 w/AO is a decent quality scope for target shooting and cheap at around $130. The crosshairs are a tad thick for really fine target work but it's a lot of scope for the money. Later if you get into matches you may want to invest in a better scope (and match ammo) but the Mueller will get you started. BTW a CZ455 American or Varmint are super accurate with the right match ammo."Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--

I think the Norinco JW 15 is a CZ knockoff. If you are budget conscious it might not be a bad choice.Comment
