    Thanks.
    I guess I need a shorty.

Just ordered a BSA 2-7 Sweet-22 for the wife's 10/22 build. Want to get her a Rifleman patch in March! =)

Got a Mueller APV for my Tactical Solution rifle. Very happy with it's performance. Really like the AO feature especially for a range rifle. Overall, you get a lot of scope for the money.

I've got - Muller, Leupold, Weaver & Nikon on mine but don't overlook BSA and Simmons for a simple basic 22lr scope.

I have a 3-9x40 Nikon Prostaff with the BDC 150 reticle.
It is a bit long to have on a takedown and get in the bag while still mounted.
While it is a nice scope for the money, I just sent mine in because it has stared to drift between rounds, guess I'll find out how good the warranty is.

The older Simmons scopes (Blount) were ideal for your needs. The Simmons original 1022T 3X9X32AO came in at approx $105.00 and was the rage of the original Rimfirecentral gang. It was NOT made in China but either Korea or The Philippines. They are 1990's issue and occasionally still around. Once Meade Optics bought Simmons the quality took a dump. Meade was trying to fill the Tasco void. That particular scope was discontinued and replaced by a $35.00 wonder with a similar name.
The Mueller would be my choice if I couldn't find a Simmons 1022T.

On my AR's and M1A I have fixed magnification: 5.5x ACOG on the M1A Scout, a 4x32 ACOG on #1 5.56 M4gery, a EoTech 557 w/3.25x magnifier on #1 5.56 M4gery, and an Aimpoint Comp2ML2 in my 9mm M4gery, figuring I would spend money on optics equivalent to or actually more in some cases than the weapon itself.

Amazingly a $40 with tax Simmons 3-12x variable scope works very well on my venerable 10/22. I can't vouch that it would have Mil-Spec durability, but it would be a cheap back up scope to add to anything. I completely broke down my 10/22 for an extreme cleaning after 25 years of ownership and it showed hardly any real wear. I would almost consider the 10/22 Mil-Spec and it would definitely be along in my Bug Out Kit right next to 1 of my AR's shotgun and pistols.
