    Help choosing 10/22 scope

I just read Sophias master scope thread.
I think I have narrowed the choices down to a 4-12x40 scope.

What are you running on your squirrel/rabbit slayer?

(I'm guessing a 25-50 yard distance is a realistic goal...)

    Thanks all!

I use a Nikon 3x9x40. I like it but I think the Muellers are better & about the same price. I'm building a lightweight 10/22 this summer & buying a Mueller APV or target model.
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!

I have both the Nikon 3x9 and Mueller 8.5x25. For short work, 75 yards or less,
I like the Nikon better. Clearer view, better eye relief. 100 yrd and over, the
Mueller wins out. At 50 yrds also need to consider field of view. I think the Nikon would win out. Both are nice, can't go wrong with either.
The Mueller is on a .17HMR. That is why I use it at longer distance.

A Mueller APV is a decent bargain varmint scope but I like a fixed focus if I'm wandering around. A Weaver RV7 2.5-7x28 rimfire (~$140) or RV4 4x28 rimfire (~$120) are good little hunting/plinking scopes. The Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 rimfire w/BDC (~$150) is a pretty decent hunting scope. For serious rimfire target shooting my favorites are Weaver's V16 and V24 but they're $250-320 and up depending on where you shop. FWIW Natchez is having a sale on Weavers.

Weaver RV9 3-9x32 rimfire w/AO on one of my 10/22s.

                  A Weaver V24 6-24x42 on another of my 10/22s.

As always your rifles are beautiful eye candy. +10 on the Weavers, best scopes for the $$$ in my opinion.

                          Thanks Sholling.
                          I'll look into those also.

Just curious, these scopes mentioned are 10/22 takedown compatible?

A Weaver RV4 is just about short enough but if I were to spend $300+ on a takedown I'd invest $220 on a Leopold VX-1 2-7x28 rimfire. It's a slightly better scope than the Weaver RV7 and more importantly for the TD it's an 1.4" shorter (10.1" vs 11.5") making it easier to put in the case without removing it. A Leopold FX-1 4x28 rimfire is even shorter at 9.2". If the Leopolds are too much then a Weaver RV4 4x28 rimfire is only 10.25" long

Barska Plinkster 3x9. I picked it up after the first day of an Appleseed shoot, so I could have it for the second day. I couldn't see the targets with just Tech Sights! Second day was actually worse because the rings suck on the Barska and it wasn't zeroed. But live and learn! I think even this cheap scope would work nice with good rings, I bought the airgun mounts that everyone suggests.
