    Light Weight Lever Action .22

    Gents

I've been looking at some .22 lever action rifles. But the ones I've seen are surprisingly heavy compared to a bolt action Ruger or Marlin. Does anyone make a light weight lever action gun?

    Thanks

I guess it sort of also depends on what you call light weight.
I have a Henry's Frontier and a Henry's Carbine. I got the Carbine because it was lighter than the Frontier and easier to hold and support for an aging shooter. Also has the big loop lever. There is a youth model too as I recall. All their stuff is Made in the USA too.

Let say something that weighs the same or less than a standard Ruger 10/22.

I've held the Henry Youth lever action gun but it still seemed heavier that the 10/22

Even if the receivers are about the same weight, a lever action has a metal tube running parallel under the barrel. Might be a difficult request.

I'm relatively new to this so I'm just exploring to see what's out there.

Why do you want such a lite .22 lever. The Henry rifles are really great and very accurate and feed really smooth for a .22.

I'm basically looking for a gun for my son. So I'm looking for something not too heavy. And the way things are going at the moment, I thought it would be good having a gun that was flexible on ammo. I know lever action guns can take various .22 ammo. Plus I think lever actions would be more fun to shoot. If I could find a light lever action all the better. At this point though I'm just exploring my options.

My ten year old brother can run my Henry. As far as ammo I've been running 22short since its been easier to find than LR and it doesn't feed as nice. I would never stake my life on that ammo feeding everytime. Oh levers are more fun. 😁

I understand. Is this your son's first rifle? And is he just starting out? Reason I ask is that if he has a couple years experience under his belt (mechanical coordination) then I can see why you would like a lever action. If he is a little greenhorn, you might think about a bolt action single shot .22. Like the Rem 514 or of course a newer model. By the way the Henry's just weigh out about 6 lbs..

Yes, this will be his first gun and he's 10. He does have a lever action BB gun so he's familiar with it but he hasn't shot a real firearm yet.

I suggest the Henry youth model and let him shoot from a front rest (sandbag or similiar) until he can handle the weight from the offhand position. Henry's are great rifles and will last him a lifetime. Let him grow into it.

Marlin makes the model 39, it's probably heavier than the Henry. If you can find one, they also made the model 57 back in the 60's Both are hand-it -down to the grandkids quality.

Model 39 is definitely not light. That's what a lot of people like about it.

BTW, I'd also recommend a bolt gun. Read why here: http://calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=695998
