    Jailed a '78 Marlin 39a

Just jailed a 1978 Marlin 39a at the lgs, stopped in yesterday to look for some 380acp and they had it sitting on the rack. Asked to look at it, nice shape, maybe a little pricier than I wanted to spend... Left, and after thinking about it too long, went back today, and talked em down a bit. Can't wait to pick it up on the 5th of Feb! Pics after I pick it up.

Sweet! I have to admit I'm a bit jealous.

I'm always on the look out for a 70s-80s era 39a or Remington 572 pump. I'll probably eventually break down and buy one off of Gun Broker someday.

Post some pics when you get it out.

My first gun is one from the 60s- handed down from my dad. Great lever action. The newer lever actions just don't have the butter feel of the older ones (or the nice furniture). You'll definitely enjoy it. Use it well.

          You're going to like it.

My 39 is from 66 and it's become my favorite rimfire.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

$520 out the door. They wanted $500 for it, plus tax/dros/all that fun stuff. Like I said bit more than I really wanted to spend, but almost all I've ever heard is that if you're going to have only one .22rf it's the one to have.

Congrats on your new rifle jthesby! I own 5 rimefire rifles and the 39A is my favorite. No problem busting clays at 100 yards. Hopefully you have 22lr ammo. Posted this before, on the The High Road site. Anything you wish to know or have questions about a 39A.

Nice, the older ones do not have the crappy hammer rebound safety, and their just made better. You will have fun with it.

They are great rifles! My girlfriend has one from the 70's as well, very solid construction, great fit and finish, thick barrel, loads of fun!

Yup I've got plenty of 22lr for now. Maybe 3k+ rounds almost all lead round nose. Have an old mossy 151m and a Romanian trainer already that have to be fed.

I'd like to have one or two more 39A or mounties w/o safety. Price hurts now, but it'll be pure joy for the rest of your life shooting it and passing it down to a new shooter.

Paid $100 for my 54 39a. It was in great shape. Rkt88 is so jealous!

                              Nice score!
Marlin rimfire lever actions are fantastic! Pretty much the same quality since the 1880s!
                              Mine are a Model 1897, a Model '92 (32 rimfire) and a 1920s Model 39.
