So, I am in the middle of building a portable target stand to take advantage of my newly acquired ammo. I will be adding another spinning target on the bottom. Any thoughts on what I should fill out the middle with? I've thought of eggs on golf tees - but that will make quite the mess on the rest of the target.

My coozy came a couple of weeks ago with my new ClubFive membership.

I'd like to get a .22 dueling tree myself. But if that was my target stand, I'd just put a paper target holder in the middle for sighting in and group shooting.

Or maybe a steel target spinner. Cardboard IDPA target holder. Steel "gong" on a chain.

Playing cards taped/nail/pinned to a stick/dowel/branch. Put some binder clips or brackets on the uprights to hold the stick on the left and right. You're going to inadvertent shoot the stick, so it's best that you can cheaply replace the damaged parts. Or, tape them to a string tied across the uprights.

Piece of styrofoam in the center that you can glue paper targets to over and over.

Thanks guys - I have some joist hangers that I am going to use on the uprights to add some stuff going across. I like the gong and playing card ideas. Is an AR500 gong overkill for 22? Planning on using this at family gatherings - so there might be some other calibers thrown in the mix.

Would someone PM me with the steps to add an item to the cart. I've been trying to add IMR 700X. Its not showing up on the website, but I have the item number from a previous order and Cabelas doesn't want to let me add the item to my cart. It doesn't like the number.

Thanks in advance on this one.

Man I've been looking for shotgun powder for awhile too. I've got like 3 5 gallon buckets of spend shells ready and waiting.

^^^ how about drilling a hole through 5 or 6 golf balls and suspend them from the top bar. A 1/4" hole, two feet of paracord each and tie a knot in the end of the string to keep the ball on the string. Be aware that any steel target can cause a ricochet if its too heavy to move from the force of a .22 bullet. 1/4" plate cut small and suspended or otherwise hinged should be plenty for .22.

No freaking kidding, if even 1/4 of your ammo fits in your safe you don't have enough!

I purchased one for my Glock 17, so it was $279 + $14 = $293. The Springfield version should come out to $299 after tax (but, I'm in Southern California so I don't know what shipping would be to your area).

If you still have old AOL (damn that's old!) CDs, those are great targets, but consider the clean up afterwards.

Gongs are great but not for a 22. Definite ricochet hazard. I'm not so sure about the golf balls, those are pretty tough, too. Tennis balls or ping pong balls or pool stick/sidewalk chalk is a better reactive target for 22's.

They make .22 gongs. its all about weight.

At our family range, someone made a gong out of an old CO2 cylinder. They are really heavy duty and make a nice ring but are light enough for .22. Be careful with steel cylinders though, you cannot predict which direction it will ricochet into. Its been plenty safe for 25 yd plus shooting though. a properly designed flat steel gong with a slight downward tilt is perfect. And it doesn't even have to be hardened steel for .22. You can probably find a cheap or free steel scrap to make it out of.
