Sig Mosquito

Hi, I'm new and I'd like to start a thread here. If you have any experience with the Sig Mosquito please let me know what you think. I've been told the newer ones are more reliable than the older ones. Is this true? Thanks for any help you can be.

sig mosquitos are crappy reguardless of age. ammo queens, pot metal, and iffy QC issues.

My wifes Mosquito works great. You definitely have to keep it clean and well lubed.

It is a good gun for what it is, a cheap way to practice with a .22 pistol that isn't a target shooting gun with a very long sight radius. It's picky with ammo, so it likes cci minimag or federal auto match. Also, the longevity isn't there. The quality doesn't hold a candle to other Sig models.

Mine has been highly satisfactory. Just remember, this pistol is not actually made by SIG so one should take this into account when comparing to a SIG-made model for fit, finish and performance. There are better .22 handguns out there, but not at the Mosquito's $300 price point.

I have had no problems with my Mosquito! The trigger leaves a lot to be desired, but for a training gun it is a nice little pistol.

I did buy it for a training gun for my grandson because it almost feels like a full-sized Sig and I love Sigs; the old ones like my 228, at least. I wanted him to get used to Sig thinking maybe will get a 229 or some other Sig some day. I don't mind using CCI or Federal. I have to use something and they are just as easy to buy, but maybe not the least expensive.

Have had mine almost a year now. Works flawlessly... Ok not flawless... but good enough to enjoy popping off another 300-400 rounds at the range after shooting my 9MM's. After 1000 rounds of mini mags it now eats Federal and Winchester Bulk ammo with no issues.

The only problem I ever have is occasionally not going back into battery. A little bump and back we go. Rimfires are notorious for fouling but I have been able to go up to 1000 rounds without a cleaning with no issues.

It's a great fun little gun. For me.

I have had one for about 9 months/~3000rds. No problems. Started with cci mini-mags,
Now shoot mostly Blazer bulk. Trigger is not the best, long pull. I like the exposed hammer and decocker as safety issues. Gun has nice feel in your hand. Need to keep it clean and rails greased.

The wife loves hers. There are some details you need to be aware of.

1. Read the manual.

2. Unlike other SIGs it has a slide mounted safety. Make sure it's "off" unlike... ummm... "somebody I know."

3. Use genuine SIG metal magazines. There are cheaper plastic knockoffs available. Resist temptation.

4. Make sure the light recoil spring is installed. To my knowlege nobody's been able to make one run with the heavy spring.

5. Break it in with 500 rds of CCI Minimag 40gr solids. Out of the box the wife's ran 500rds with, according to her, zero malfs. I seem to recall one, but I could be wrong. After that find what it likes. The wife's runs Remington GB bulk 99%. If the round goes bang, the gun functions. It also likes Blazer bulk. Federal bulk makes it a single shot.

6. Keep it clean, keep it wet. Cleaning is a breeze. Takes very little time to clean & lube after a session. Make sure you use a plastic safe solvent on the frame. There is also a little screw under the takedown lever that likes to try to back out occasionally. Make sure it's tight. That little hole on the right side of the slide is for oil, too.

7. Don't sweat the trigger. It sucks out of the box & to my knowlege that ain't gonna change. It makes any other trigger feel like a tuned Dan Wesson.

Mine does not like federal but shoots very well with cci blazer. Most probem with federal is ftf. I feed the ftf's to my 10 22 so there's no waist of food.

I've never had an issue with mine and everyone that shoots it falls in love with it. I have always used the blazer bricks through it and the only malfunction i have gotten is a bad round. I haven't cleaned mine in about 1100rds (i know i'm a bad boy lol) and it hasn't given me any issues.

Mine jams once it gets a little bit dirty, somewhere between 75 - 100 rounds. Then it's done for the day.

Shoots dirty but easy to clean. I agree that the trigger is not to my liking either.
