    Walther P22 or SR22

Went to the LGS for some ammo and saw these two. They look really similar. Any opinions on these?

Will probably pick one up after Christmas.

    Thanks.

The SR22, has in essence, rendered the P22 as irrevelevant to all but the most steadfast Walther fans-my opinion (you know what they say about opinions).......

    Walther:
Made by a sub-contractor FOR Walther-not really a Walther (or Smith for that matter) gun
Zamak (zinc alloy) slide can be subject to breakage
Has been known to be picky on which ammo it will eat
    More expensive than the SR22
    Not rated for hi-velocity ammo

    Ruger:
Made by Ruger, not a sub
    Aluminum slide, far more durable
Not picky with ammo. Eats basically anything
    Cheaper than the Walther
    Hi-velocity ammo is OK

This coming from an ex-P22 owner.

Thanks for the info. Just the comparison I was looking for.

I didn't look at the S&W. they didn't have one in stock. How does the S&W compare to the Ruger?

We have a SR22 and really like it. Sorry no experience with the SW or the P22 but have read the P22 is a piece of crap.

I'm going to dissent from the crowd, and not just because I am a Walther fan.

I started out with the older style P22. Went through the gun and got it working rather reliably. Ate just about anything, but was still a little finicky with certain ammo.

Bought the SR22, great gun. Grip was too damn small. Tried the larger grip, and this is what killed it for me, massive hammer bite unless I shifted my hand lower on the grip making shooting uncomfortable...but I lived with it because it was more reliable than my old P22.

Recently bought the P22q and they have really improved the gun in the past few years. Out of the box I am over 2500 rounds through it now with not a single failure that can be attributed to the gun, some underpowered ammo won't cycle the slide far enough to pick up the next round, but the SR22 did that too, but nothing else. The P22 with the large backstrap fit my hand much better than the SR22 did with either grip and no hammer bite. I could edge out the SR22 as far as accuracy goes, same ammo shot one after the other I would consistently shoot a 1-2" tighter group with the P22.

Yeah you get a lifetime warranty from Ruger, and Ruger does make great rimfires, but I don't feel the Walther is inferior. I don't think what they are selling now would leave anyone disappointed.

As for the M&P-22 if you dislike the Umarex made P22 and its Zamak slide, the M&P-22 is made of the same material by the same company.

Between the 2, get the SR22p. Buddy of mine used HV ammo in his P22 and the slide cracked on him, I feed my SR22p a constant diet of HV ammo and 5000ish rounds later, still perfect.

I have heard nothing but complaints about the "Walther"(not actually a Walther gun, they just slapped their name on it)

Just took out my SR22 again today. Best gun purchase I have made in the past few years. Cycles anything I put in the mag, traditional mag release and alot of fun for a rimfire handgun. I did alot of research before buying it and the pros outweighed any cons.

Just a sidenote. Our SR22 even cycles the standard velocity CCI which is at around 1070 FPS. I would venture a P22 will not do that.
